Check out Puerto Pollensa...
http://www.puertopollensa.com/
...my other choices would be Cala San Vicente and Puerto Soller, although both might be a little too quiet and laid-back for you.
All three are lovely resorts with nice beaches, bars & restaurants and an understated night-life. They are definitely not clubbing, lager-lout resorts.

Thanks Pollensa 1946 - I have also read the Alcudia has a nice beach...

Alcudia was the resort which imediately came to mind as I read the first post.

Plenty of restaurants and bars, but not an 18-30 type resort by any means. Lively, but not too lively.
Only down side is it's a little too comercialised for some peoples taste.

I also agree that Puerto Pollensa would be a good choice for the kind of holiday your looking for, a great resort with a great beach but not as big as Alcudia.

Haven't been for a while but Alcudia , Puerta Pollensa, and Can Picafort were all really nice and within easy reach of each other. Allcudia is the biggest and livliest while the other two are quieter. Beaches are lovely and very safe as water is quite shallow.

Would love to go back :cheers

I agree with tis, but would add cala san vicente although it may be too quite :que Lovely beaches, great restaurants. We also like puerto pollensa, its a great place to catch a bus and travel round the island. Wherever you stay in majorca will be great. We've been going for 25yrs and haven't had a bad holiday. Good luck with your choice :tup :sun2

Cala Bona and Cala Millor for me as well - although the beach at Cala Millor is better. Louise

Thanks for all the replys ;) . So I guess my search for a Villa will start at Puerto Pollensa... Are the beached there unspoilt? Is it quite touristy with Children?

Many thanks

What's unspoilt in your definition ? The north beach at PP consists of a series of small natural beaches directly off of the Pine Walk pedestrian area. There are well dispersed sunbeds and parasols, both for hire. Being small the beaches tend to get a bit crowded in the busy season. The south beach is a much bigger, longer beach off of the main Alcudia road. Again it has sunbeds and parasols, but much more dispersed, leaving large areas where you can lounge under your own parasol, and it's not as busy as the north beach.
The resort is very popular with families so you will see lots of children on the beach, including my 2-year-old grandson in September.
Will you like PP ? My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have travelled throughout the Med, the Caribbean and several times to the Far East and Australia. Where do we like best in the world for a holiday ? Puerto Pollensa. Others however might find it not to their taste. I hope you try it and enjoy it.

Thanks Pollensa1946, I guess I find it scary trying new places as money is always tight and I would hate to go somewhere and think uh oh.. this is not for us ect... We really enjoyed Menorca and the beaches there were fantastic - I have just read on the pollensa Forum about the Beach at PP being full of Fag Butts and rubbish in the Sea... I wanted to go to Majorca as I am hoping the beaches are Very Clean and not like Benidorm ect ect? (No offence to anyone that likes Benidorm :duh )

Cheers Claire

The scale of the rubbish you refer to is certainly a new one on me, and we have been going to PP every year since 1999, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year and sometimes long stay in the winter. Granted you will see the occasional plastic bag and cig ends, but the local council are meticulous about cleaning the beach and the whole area every day. The Mallorca government employs 12 boats that patrol the island constantly picking rubbish out of the sea, why they need to do that is indeed a disgrace but it seems that the people who drop the stuff are everywhere these days. You will not escape this stuff anywhere, I know from experience.
You refer to Menorca, we've been there and (personal, subjective opinion), it does not hold a candle to Mallorca, especially if you get out and explore the island.
A good tip in PP if you are staying in self-catering accommodation, all of the larger hotels run a nightly floor-show and for the cost of a drink you can sit in (in fact if you don't want the drink simply sit in and say "no thanks" to the waiter, they'll think you are just another hotel guest). The town abounds with nice restaurants and bars where you can pass an evening chatting or people-watching or listening to entertainment. I'm biased, I like it.
