I would advise tipping in Egyptian currency . Tipping a Dollar every time is not necessary 1 or 2 LE (10-20p) should suffice . Tipping should also be a reward for good service so do not feel pressurised to tip .Tips should not be demanded (though they sometimes will especially at the airport ). Over tipping doesnt help either as it encourages rogues after easy money . Is a sad fact that people in services can end up better paid than doctors due to over tipping . Thankfully in El Gouna you are never agressively asked for tips which is a refreshing change from the rest of Egypt .

In Egypt cash is king when paying for things . It is easy enough to get local currency from ATM's in El Gouna and this is what I usually do.There are ATm's at a number of locations . All prices are in Egyptian Pounds and this is the currency they expect (Except the Duty free shop which is priced in USD $) .Apart from in Hotels and the duty free shop your credit card will be of no use

I can't comment on the Vegan situation . There are plenty of vegetarian options . I would try to ask how the food is prepared though as they may be unaware of using animal derivatives even in veggie food .

Beer prices Vary from £1 in the cheapest bars restaurants to £3 in the five star hotels . Wine is not cheap . Even local wine Obelisque,Jardin Du Nil, Sheherezade will set you back around £10 in a restaurant .Imported wine will be about £40 for the cheapest wine. The supermarket in the main square sells local wine for £6 and the Duty free shop (imported) around £4 (Within 48 hours of arrival).

El Gouna is a good choice for a first visit to Egypt as the normal rules do not apply . You will not be harrassed every few paces to look in shops or take a taxi or eat in a restaurant ,which can be a bit daunting for a first time visitor. I hope you have a good holiday

Have been to Egypt 3 times.I really love it.The Egyptians are gangsters they will try to swindle you,but they will do it with a wry smile.You have to realise that you are in a third world country.
Food is very good and a high standard.It is a very cheap country where pennies mean a lot.They are a very friendly people who will not hesitate to scam you if given the opportunity.Treat them as equals and let them know that your are not a fool and you should get on very well.They have very western sense of humour and are a joy to talk to.They can be a bit overbearing but do not be rude to them, just firm. ihope you enjoy your trip,I always do
