Hi there,
We go to Thailand a lot for 2 months in the winter. But because we feel like we need to see different places we are thinking of Goa.
We are planning to go from 23 dec till march. Now we have never been.
Can somebody tell me brief descriptions of the differnt areas so we can make a choice of where to go.
Any tips or info on beaches, nightlife and accomodation.
For example in Thailand we can rent a luxury bungalow for £300 a month.
Can we find similar in goa? Do we need to book over the net or can we book upon arrival?
The plan is maybe to book something for xmas and then when we know our way around find something for the other 2 months.
Thanks very much, Isabel
Please correct me if im wrong anyone!
The north of Goa eg calangute and baga are the busiest. Although candolim is in the north and thats not as busy as baga, calangute.
You will probably find more places to stay in the north than the south, and probably spend a lot less. But the south do have gorgeous beaches, and i think most entertainment is hotel based but you do get restaurants. Cant really comment much more on the south as ive only been to North.
If you want to escape the beach sellers and your staying in the north, then jump in a taxi to a beach further north (mandrem and other surrounding beaches) . No sellers, peace and quiet.
Whoaw thats a lot of money for accomodation.
I was under the assumption that Goa was still cheap!! Isn't there any bungalows for rent for only a few pounds a night? And bungalows that are still of good quality ( clean, no cockroaches etc...) We could stretch our budget to £10 a night per room.
hi isabel I was given an e.mail address of a man called joseph ....he has a guesthouse in candolim his rates is about 10 quid a night but i know if you stay longer its even less .....its on the beach and right beside bars hotels and all you will need his e mail is luciaguesthouse@2ify.com ........im told it can take a few days for joseph to get back to you .....but i e mailed on sunday morning and he got back to me at tea time............ hope this is of help to you
isabel that should read guesthouse my hubby said tap in lucia guest house goa in to google and you will see the guest house
We have reviews of this guest house
I have just been reading through the forum and read some stuff about Palolim. This seems quite an interesting place. Anybody else got some comments on this?
Also how much spending money do you think we need per day for 2 people. say in Thailand for example we managed with £20 a day and thats not for accomodation.
Cheers
We normally take £500 to cover our food and drink, bike hire and a few trips, and then extra dosh for clothes, jewerelly etc.
Regards
Peter
I think your best bet would be to get down the local library and seek out the latest Rough Guide or Lonelty Planet for Goa. It is only a small state really and dead easy to travel round. You could easily get your flights only and perhaps just book the Xmas/New Year period and then wing it yourselves when you get there. Palolem etc is very nice but is much much cheaper up in the north. In Arambol you can find yourself something clean, safe and basic for 350 ruppees a night for two (about £4) whereas the more package tourist areas like Candolim and Calungute will cost you more on average (count on £10 a night). This site is a great way to get the feel of the place.
