If you can get a flight cheaper into Tampa the take it -its a straightforward drive up the I-4 into the area where the villas will be located .If you want a specific home then it may be better to book it independently and most owners will have contacts for flights ,tickets and car hire .Booking direct also means you have a direct line to the owner and can ask any questions you have about what is provided in the home .Most companies will allocate you a home on arrival so you won't know where it is until you land -unless you pay extra .You need to do the costings and see how it works out for your family .

driving in florida is a doddle but i wouldnt fancy the extra hours journey after a 9 hour flight and if its your first time on their roads it could be a bit overwhelming fresh from getting off the plane

Have a look at cheaptickets.com they show some codeshare prices - Virgin Atlantic with Continental for around $975. Just use their software to search, you don't have to book with them.

Most of the major carriers won't let you book direct until 332 days prior to flying.

WOW
Awsome prices for the 1st week I can search for in August 2008

Thanks for that - I had been searching direct with Virgin/BA/Delta etc...and they were coming out more expensive than that..?????

Are you saying I dont have to book with Cheaptickets? I can book with VIrgin & Continental direct for example and they will match the price?

Well I wouldn't hesitate to book with Cheaptickets if you want to book early. You won't be able to book direct with any of the major carriers until 329 days before your trip.
Kayak is also another good search engine for flights, and there is a new one called Vayama that looks good also.
I don't think you will find the really cheap flights except thru a discounter like Cheaptickets. Shop around and see what you can find. I also like American Airlines new search capability on their website- click Price and Schedule and you come up with a lot more choices.

Travel city direct have been doing some great flight prices for this year.

Been with them 4 times this year and paid from £160-£259 each time-but not August.

It may still be worth checking them out nearer the time.

£700-is a lot of dosh!!!!

Have you had a look a Travel City Direct? I'd give them a call as quite often the call centre prices can be better than the internet.

If is half term that you are looking at travelling then expect to pay a premium. If not then you can often pick up a really good late deal to Florida at that time of year.

Happy hunting!

paultervit,

You have the choice of the following airlines:

Virgin Atlantic (MCO)
My Travel (SFB)
Thomas Cook (SFB)
First Choice (SFB)
Thomsonfly (SFB)
Monarch (SFB)
XL / Travel City Direct (SFB)

Then there are non-direct flights:

US Airways (via Philladephia)
Continental (via New York Liverty)
Delta (via Atlanta)
American Airlines (via Chicago)
British Airways (via New York JFK & partners)
Bmi (via Chicago)

Good luck!

Hi Paul , hubby and I are also looking to go to Florida end of May beginning of June from Glasgow and are thinking of waiting till nearer the time to try and get a good deal . In 2006 we went at the same time and booked 6 weeks before departure and got flight and hotel for £700 for both of us from Airtours . However we have started looking now ( to take our minds off dismal weather, lol )and have found Travel City Direct the best option so far . Not sure with Airtours and T .Cook merging if there will be such good deals . As Darren has mentioned there are plenty of other options to sift thru . If you do find a good deal , please let me know !

Darren - Out of interest - have you had any notification of what equipment Travel City Direct will be using long haul for 2008? I was under the impression the classic 747's (Air Atlantic) were not being used?

Travel City Direct no longer use B747's as their lease ran out from Air Atlanta Europe in November 2007. TCD are now operated by XL Airways and the route is currently being served by their own B767-300s. However the Summer 08 route is expected to be operating by an A330 (from Manchester) before XL's very own brand new A330's come into service towards the end of 2008.

Hope this helps.

I dont know if the seats will be as cheap as they have been the last few years on charters now, as TCX, FCA, and TOM have all reduced the amount of seats they have on board to give more legroom so prices have gone up because of this. Scheduled may be your best bet but your leaving it a wee bit late too get the really cheap fares it it involves any school holidays. If avoiding school hols you may get a good deal with Delta or US Airways.

Yipeee , hubby's hours of searching finally paid off and he found flights from Glasgow to Tampa via Gatwick on Expedia.co.uk . They were special internet fares and are for the 31st May for 2 weeks costing £776.40 all in for the 2 of us with B.A. . Well we thought they were good prices , lol. :D
All we have to do now is find accommodation , but that's the fun part .

Hi guys, and i have tried phoning Portland to see if they had any idea whether the Plane we have got has any t.v's in back of seats or games available.

We are flying through Portland on 3rd May, i believe flight is at least 8-10 hours.

Silly question i know but it's a long flight.
Cheers
