Qatar Airways have some good prices from Manchester to Mumbai if you don't mind stopping off in Doha on the way. I have just booked for Christmas with them, ticket price was £380 but taxes were another £119 so it comes in at a shade under £500 each return. We are travelling on Christmas Day which we don't mind and makes it cheaper.

In Gemma-ese I think that's 236 sleeps to go.

I hope im not 'hijacking' this thread, but i didnt know where else to put my querery.

I got a flight only last year to goa when i went with my parents and it worked out about 250pounds each return with mytravel in Jan.
Im looking up the flights now and it seems they're almost nearly treble what we paid last year.
Should we just hold on til a few weeks before we want to go and then book?

We booked with southall Travel and got flights in October for £275 each return to Mumbai. Thats flying with Austrian Airways from Heathrow and a 2 hour stop in Vienna.

We fly out on 19th October and return 26th March.

Just got back nearly 2 weeks ago and I'm planning going back in Sept.

Are there any direct flights at that time of year or do you have to fly via Mumbai?

I've been checking on the prices but most seem to be well over £450.00!!

Does anyone know where's the best place to look.

Goalovers:

Have you seen some cheap flights you could let me know about please?

Thanks

Virgin - Mumbai Rtn £368pp booking direct with Virgin

The only direct to Goa I know are Thomsons, My Travel, & Monarch
Prices seem to be going up & not down at the moment & I am waiting to book 2008 flights but cannot for another week, but will not be waiting and taking a gamble on a price drop...

:( prices next season are ridiculous! My flight in Dec went up £140 whilst I was waiting for the ok from work - it is now over £900!!! I've just booked for March - its miles more than I usually pay and is going via Manchester! but I've booked it cos there was only 2 places left!!!

Why pay all that for a charter flight OK it may be direct
but we are only paying £447 from Heathrow to Delhi with
Virgin[doing the Golden Triangle]
then Kingfisher airways to Goa for £125 return, works out a lot cheaper than the charters unless you have the accomodation booked with them.
Also more leg room, free meals ,and drinks on the Virgin flight

Lynndan - what are the flight times from Heathrow/Mumbai and return. We don't live near Heathrow so have to have plenty of time to get there and back.
Jet return to Goa Oct/March is £509 at the moment and their times are good for us - not much waiting about in Mumbai but may go down to Goa on the train for a change this time. 133rps single Mumbai/Tivim (which is the other side of Mapusa) It costs more for the taxi to Calangute than the train fare.

We were looking at taking the train, do you know how long it takes from Mumbai to Tivim.
Thanks

Ginlizzy, I think the journey time is approx 10/11hrs, not 100% sure tho!

We have gotten a good deal with Virgin, 237 pounds return to Mumbai, then it costs about 45 pounds down to Goa if you book directly online with the airline.

Thanks GoanmadTony

We caught the express from Tivim at 3 pm and arrived in Mumbai at 11 pm.
When we came back it was on the slower train which took exactly 12 hours.
The second time we went was overnight in the A/C 2 sleeper but found the beds as hard as Calangute hotel beds and the upper tier one was worse.
When we were in A/C carriages it was difficult to see out of the windows due to the condensation inbetween the window glass but on the express we went in the "sitting up seats" (as our friend calls them) in the carriage without the glass in the windows and it was much better.
If you are going on the train you have to book as far in advance as possible - you can book certain seats online or do it through an agent. The second time we went we had to wait for 3 weeks for the seats.

Thanks Narial
We went on one of those no window trains to Hospet and found it ok. Everyone took turns to have a sleep on the top bunk/shelf the views from the train were fantastic. I think it was 9-10 hours it was a real go slow train but we didnt mind but I wouldnt risk the loo's on there as every now and again a man got on with a hosepipe and hosed them out. Straight onto the track :yuck

Thats really cheap, I am hanging on a bit to see if they go down. We are looking to fly out 10th Nov and back 9 Dec so I am going to keep my eye on prices over the next couple of weeks. Dont want to leave it to late to book.

:( Apparently the charter flights have been cut next season - I've just managed to get the last seat on the Brum flight (a week later than I normally go and £150 more!) and it goes via Manchester!
