You can fly to either Glasgow or Inverness and then either take a bus or train to Fort William. I'd say go with the cheapest flight. Its between 3 and 4 hours from Glasgow and about 2 hours from Inverness by bus or car.

Unless stuck behind a slow moving caravan on the A82, I don't think the drive from Glasgow to Fort William has ever taken me any longer than 2hrs 30mins to 2hrs 45mins. But the scenery is spectacular and you may want to allow some extra time for photo stops at Loch Lomond or Glencoe.

Coach services are scheduled to take around 3hrs, and trains around 3hrs 30 mins.

You will find a journey planner at http://www.travelinescotland.com/ which will give you an idea of current options during the winter months. I'm not sure if the summer schedules will have been loaded yet.

If you were considering driving all the way from Wales, you will find a free route map service at http://www.rac.co.uk/

As for accommodation, if you check out our Hotel Reviews section (link in top left hand corner), I'm sure we have a couple of listings for Fort William.

You will find further advice at http://www.visitscotland.com/

When we visited FW last year we stayed at the travelodge. At foot of Ben Nevis clean, comfortable and we got a great deal on the room. Check the website as they often do rooms for around £20 a night sometimes cheaper. They also have great facilities for bikers and walkers like a drying room. Much needed in FW any time of the year, apparently! If you have the time, the drive is easy enough and absolutely breathtaking. If you're able to secure a good price on the room, choose another t/lodge for a stopover. We stayed 1 night in Dumfries, spent the weekend in Wemyss Bay holiday park and drove from there to FW for 2 nights. Great way to do it if you have the time.
