Hi All,
First post here, just found the place and find all the comments very useful.
Myself and My Wife and our 13 month old daughter are travelling to France on May 13th with Brittany Ferries from Cork to Roscoff, with our Caravan. We are planning on staying for 3 weeks.
My intention was to check the weather in brittany before going to see if we would stay there for a while. If the weather isn;t going to be great in Brittany, we'll travel straight down to the Vendee region.
Has anybody any experience of the weather in these regions at this time of year. Also I suppose my concern also would be that some sites wouldn't have any of the amenties open at that time of the year. i.e. Swimming, Bars etc.
Any recommendations, would be much appreciated.
Have you looked at going with haven, have been with them lots of times, staying in there caravans and taking our own also. Have stayed at St John De Monts, La charmettes (Royan) but dont think you can take your own van now, and the site in Brittany. Plenty to do and have a kids clu, entertainment, pools etc. If you stay at there own sites (run by them) everything is open from the start of the season. Have a look on there website http://www.siblu.com.
Hope this is some help.

We tend to go out of Season too
Using camping cheques check out their website
http://www.campingcheque.co.uk/en/
they charge £10.30 a cheque this year and that entitles you to
pitch + electricity + awning + family pet for two adults
your daughter wouldn't be charged for as it's too young for most sites fees
and when you consider that some sites charge nearly double this they are very cost effective
Thanks all for the info.
I will definately check out the camping cheques, Grey, are the widely accepted in France?
Regards
Gavin

Answer widely enough go on the web page and click on Our sites the click on France and then a quarter of France you fancy then click on the site name to get a resume and direct webpage info
What we do is using the book they send you (550+ sites in Europe) we look for something that we fancy then en-route we ring to see if they have availability
We particularly like
Interpals in Pals Spain
Mas De Pierredon in Sanary Sur Mer France (SE)
Ma Prairie - Canet Plage Mediterranean France
La Grappe d'Or Central France
Didn't like
Les Vagues
Montpelier Plage
However do try to go for four star and above some of the lesser ones are a little ropey
I'm loading a lot of pictures on to a new photo site but they are available at present on http://community.webshots.com/user/madcaravanner but not for much longer
Can anybody confirm that the Electrical hook up cable connection in France is the same as Ireland and the UK?
Havn't been with own caravan for a few years but recall that some might have been a two pin plug connecting into the power box. You can buy an adapter from caravan accessory shops that will then link to uk cable. Might be as well to buy reverse polority tester to check connection.( dont cost much)

On SOME sites yes
on some site no -- French connector - Good camping shops sell them over here
on some Campsites the positive and negative terminals are reversed
and it's not just the French connector ones either
meaning that your equipment is still live when you switch it off
easy to make a test rig and a reverse polarity lead if you know what you are doing
