Well I can't find anything so hubby has now decided a new one is probably just as cheap as paying for updates. Anyone have any recommendations? Preferably one who provides free updates?

My wife bought a Nuvi in a sale at Halfords 3 years ago for ~ £59 including all the accessories - they want nearly as much for one off maps upgrade as we paid for the satnav in the first place with a free 1st upgrade!!! Think they wanted £79.99 for "lifetime" upgrades!!
We have decided the same as you and will prob. pay a bit more for a Tom Tom with lifetime map upgrades-seen them for ~ £100 @ Halfords ,so sure that they must be cheaper elsewhere on line.
