well post if you get your pettition up and running, i dont live local but would still sign it as freedom have lost me over £1000. i have exhausted everywhere i can think of to get answers and the money back, hoping on the bank and will post when i hear back them. abta head office still say you travel should honour the booking but cause ive paid them again, only a chargeback is my best chance.
in the future i will only be using the big companies as im not leaving to chance small companies any more. its worth paying more to get proper protected. freedom stitched up all the paper work and led everyone to think you are protected and are the only ones who have benefited from this whole mess. the goverment should take action against freedoms directors as they knew what they were doing when they booked everyones holiday and should accountable.

hi all im new to this site. i have been using the travel rants site there is over 220 blogs on there at present! a lot of good advice to. i am a freedom direct customer who have also lost a lot of money and what i dont understand is how the hell are they still allow to trade, there website is back up and running and the people who took our original money are the people answering phones at hays!!!! they sent all my confirmation out on the 15th april day b4 they went under i actually spoke to them that day as there was a query with my booking!abta in my opinion really need to tell these hotel companies that if they dont honour bookings they will cancel there contract with them , otherwise this will happen again and what is the point of being protected if they cannot actually do anything! hays want to charge me for my whole holiday again when infact they told me on the phone they can see my payment details but i have to claim that back?? i stated no i will pay the balance to you but not the full amount i am not paying twice and surprise surprise they dont want to no.... also they want to charge me for a transfer that is free with the hotel. work that one out they are just trying to make money out of us!!! good luck everybody. :( p.s if anybody is interested on travel rants there are lots of links to petitions at number 10. watchdog etc.

this morning i have gone onto no 10 petitions and e mailed them ,explaining abta and the legal team is obviously having trouble enforcing the tour operators to honour bookings .there must be thousands who have been told and received letters from abta ,dont pay these abta members again under law they have to honour your booking. hopefully somebody above abta will get involved or at least assist them as they are struggling. been told by abta call back on tuesday they are still talking,refusing to give me the head office number.

the head office i believe is in the same building/plot just a different number which is....020 73797311. as opposed to the number they are giving out which is. 020 74536350.......... hope it helps? :tup

i have just spoke to youtravel.com who said that all hotel bookings have been passed back to hays travel.
so i followed this up with a call to ABTA, they said they are in talks and under acency laws thay HAVE TO honour our bookings. they told me to ring back tuesday-wednesday next week for more information so i am just going to do that.

i am refusing to hand over any money to hays travel as i know it could all mean nothing - the same as our first payments!!

i know its hard but lets have faith that ABTA will push his so they honoour them all..

I agree with the last message, I'm not phoning ABTA or Hays again, I will leave it a few more days. I have emailed the Judge in the Sunday Mail who is going to look into it for me. I also emailed Watchdog, however they have not responded.
In this day and age when people are being fined for putting a cigarette out in the street, why are these companies allowed to get away with this.

I wrote to my local MP and by chance he is doing his surgery 300 yards away from my hous tomorrow so I will be going to see him, don't know if any good will come out of it but , hey its worth a shot,

hi all, i have seen that the price of my lost hotel is going up each day.
would it be a good idea to just book again and try to claim after?

matt.... yep they are going up every day but dont no if ur abta protected but they are advising to waite till tue as they are still in talks wiv hotel providors and telling everybody not to part with any more money especially to hotel companies are there would be no bonding if u do it independantly! i have allready submitted my claim and if i was u i would get the ball rolling with respect to a claim. as they are still dealing with xl from last year and advising people it will take 20 weeks before they respond.

abta wont let me submit my claim, they keep telling me to phone back next week to find out more information to do with youtravel.com.
yesterday when i spoke to hays travel they said i could rebook for the same price, i bet this no longer applies!!

i honestly dont know what to do, i want to claim from my credit card rather than from abta as im sure it would be alot quicker!!

i know the hotel price are rapidly going up now but i am due to travel on 23rd june so still have around 7 weeks, abta's advice is to wait for more information.
as i booked this hotel as it was all inclusive and cheap if i was to rebook i would be looking for the same thing.

what do you think the prices would be like for 2 adults for 14 nights all inclusive if i was looking to book a at the beginning of june for when i get there on 23rd??

i am thinking about trying to get a late cheap all inclusive hotel..

Well I finally got some good news today. Freedom direct had paid my flights and the tickets arrived today, I am due to go out in 2 weeks.

I have been on another site, travel rants and there are many people who have been done up like a kipper with FD. All I can suggest is that we do not let this go, complain to ABTA, your local MP, to hopefully get your money back and prevent this situation happening again

mattyj. yes u are rite credit card companies are quicker but they wont apply it back to your card untill after the date you were originally going to travel. im not going till 30th june so a week after you i too am all inclusive but what i did was rang my hotel supplier who has hung on to my original bked rooms as i,ve told them i will get back to them nxt week after i,ve spoke to abta. and they will keep my rooms at the same price for us untill 72 hours before our date. ring them or email and ask them to do this for you. at least then if you do have to pay again it will be for the original price.

i have just found out that freedom direct sold supplier failure cover ,which states in my booking £12.00 i have paid for ,hays advise me that it is rock insurance, it states if your supplier becomes insolvent or a booking is made up of flights accomodation to take out this insurance just in case your accomadation is cancelled etc ,gave them a call ,sending me a claim form, but of coarse they are now panicking because freedom did sell their policys and the insurance will now try to avoid paying out for this happening. awaiting a call back.hays/freedom can see i have paid this. but will the insurance pay out because you travel.com will cancel the booking ive paid for already.

abta claim wont be done for at least 20 weeks and as im going in 7-8 weeks i may aswell just try from my credit card company but they need something in writing from abta to process the claim which is fair enough.

i am going to email youtravel.com to see if they will hold onto my booking until 72 hours before my due departure, they may get abit funny with this though.

i have figured out that to be honest it is just a waiting game until abta come out with some concrete information.

Hi all, i paid 550 to freedom direct,wen Hotels 4u ask me to re-book they wanted another 250 quid extra,so i went looking and found the same hotel... same date....same room...with Travel republic for 444.Today iv just looked and they 2 have put there prices up buy another 110,so everyone know just trying to get as much money as they can out of us.....robbin gets.I have put a claim in with my bank and just hopeing i can get somethin back,Abta no help at all,just keep saying try next week...try next week but buy then there will be no Hotels for everyone or if there is they will be sky high in price.

im travelling on 23rd june and i am refusing to pay any money until june, i am going to leave it for a month and see what happens, what more do i have to lose - nothing!!!

mattyj.. our credit card company just exepted our original booking confirmation and then rang hays direct.. ask ur c/card company to do same? also i cant see there being a problem with your hotel provider as we were originally told the same buy them that all booking had to be done via hays but we sed no we wanted to deal with them direct and had to promise to ring them no later than wednesday nxt week. u can only try at the end of the day.

caz.... have a look on trip advisor if they do your hotel u get quite a large discount from them if u book using there website.. worth a try?

I am travelling on 6th june - there ar 14 of us, and as yet we only have our flights confirmed - only by phone. If we all have to pay again it will be nearly 3K. There is no way we can afford this. I have emailed both HT and our hotel and none of them are replying to my emails!
Let us know if you get anywhere with the petition to No10.

I find it strange that Hays travel have employed the owners of freedom direct, and yet they still do not know where the money is??????
I spoke with RMT today about my payment, my payment cleared the same day FD collapsed, apparently they cleared their account at midday and collapsed in the afternoon. How nice of them!!!!

RMT also said Hays travel had bought the data base only, which it seems as someone else said, for the sole purpose to make money out of people who had lost their holiday.

Also been told that ABTA have to pay refunds to either the customer or the company.
The reason the hotel company's dont want to honour the bookings and claim back from ABTA is that ABTA don't pay them the full amount. Abta only pay the full amount to customers... so this is probably why ABTA want the companys to claim from them and not the customers.

It seem everyone is just out for themselves and as usual we get shafted!!!!!
