You should plan to be in Turkey at least 7 working days before you get married, to let you get your documents processed at the Consulate and arrange things with the Registrary Office in the town you are getting married in.

This is not true actually, we usually only need just a couple of days before the wedding, or three at the most in extreme cases.

Yes it can be done in 3 days but if you don't want to rush everything especially if you are irish and have to get your paperwork from Ankara then a few extra days means not everything is done in a rush.

we decided to go on a seperate trip to antalya to do the british consulate things as i didnt want all this to do the week of my wedding. this can be done up to 12 weeks before the wedding. we then were only left with the trip to fethiye to the registrar and medical centre which on took the morning, and that was mainly due to waiting at each place for quite a while, that was my choice but it could be done a few days before the wedding

Hi Alison,

We always have the paperwork picked up from the Irish Embassy and certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the couple even arrives in Turkey so they don't need to make the trip themselves. As for Britsh couples, the journey of course depends on where they are travelling from but our driver takes them to the Consulate early in the morning and as he is experienced in this and knows exactly where he needs to go and what needs to be done, he can usually have them back at around 3pm, somethimes even earlier. If the wedding is in a place where no blood tests are required such as Fethiye, we have the medical paperwork ready and take the couple to the medical centre as soon as they arrive back so all the formalities are completed on the same day and they still have time left for a swim when they get back to their hotel :))

I guess what I meant to say in my previous post was that if you know what you are doing and if you are well organised then everything can very easily be done in just a couple of days and it will not be rushed at all but if you have no idea where you need to go or what you need to do then of course you will need much longer.

can british paper work be picked up from the consulate also or is this just for irish nationals?
Reply
It is just for Irish nationals, the British Consulate want the couple to visit them in person to get their paperwork.

Why has it to be certified at ministry of foreign affairs?
again is this only for irish or british also?

is there anyway brits can avoid going to the consulate in person?
Reply
no we had to go to the british consulate in person in antalya, take our papers from the uk,they checked our passports, pay some fees, get papers signed etc, they also put some sort of bans up about your wedding too

I don't think there is any way round going to the consulate in person.

We didn't have any bans put up there, I took my certifictae of non-impediment with me to be translated plus my passport and birth certificate and collected some other paperwork, which we then took to the governors office. I thought you only got bans put up if you don't have a certificate of non impediment but then you have to wait 21 days before you can get the rest of the paperwork.
Reply
it was what i described loosely as bans, might have another name, but everyone that was getting married had their name , age & nationality written on a small card & put on a board for all to see, i did ask about it and she said it was all the forth coming weddings

Oh, they didn't do that when I got married but we had to go to Izmir so maybe it is different there.

The procedure is the same whichever consulate you go to. If you live in the UK permanently you apply to your local registry office for your no impediment forms and these will be issued 21 days following our application. But if you live in Turkey or spend a long time here you can do this through the consulate. You have to have been in Turkey for over 21 days for you to be able to apply to a British Consulate for this and it again takes another 21 days for it to be issued. Again, their procedure is the same, both the registry office in the UK and the consulate would your bans up and keep them there for 21 days before issuing your certificate.

There is no way of avoiding going to the consulate in person for British couples as they must see you in person and get you to sign the affidavit that they issue for you.

As for the certification part, any official document issued by a foreign body in Turkey has got to be certified by the local authorities. If the Consulate / Embassy is located in Ankara (such as the Irish Embassy) the certifying authority would be the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara. If the consulate is located in Istanbul, Antalya or Izmir, then its the Governor's Office in these towns. They check and certify that the signature and the stamp on the paperwork belong to the consulate.

Hello,

I hope someone can help me I am trying to find a location for a wedding in Ankara, Turkey. We are planning to be married this Summer.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most helpful.

Thank you!

We have just returned from a two week holiday in Bodrum. While we were there we got married at The Mimoza Fish Restaurant in Gumusluk fishing village on the Bodrum Peninsula. Beautiful little place. Perfect location, on the beach. Simple evening ceremony. Great meal. Lovely sunset. The restaurant didn't charge us for getting married there. We just gave them a great tip. I cannot recommend them enough for anyone looking for a peaceful, pretty location with stunning views.

We, as people with only a little Turkish, could not have arranged a wedding in Turkey without a wedding planner. Step forward Hayal Dedeoglu. I contacted 3 organisations and she won hands down in terms of a friendly, professional and fast response. I only contacted her in January this year and she made everything so easy for us. And we married on my birthday in May. Everything was perfect. We highly recommend her. Her company is eggorganizasyon.com and site is myweddinginturkey.com

Thank you for everything Hayal.

That sounds lovely, we got married in Bodrum and had our party at a restaurant on the beach in Gumbet but Gumusluk is one of my favourite places and it would have been lovely to do it there.

We did it all ourselves though and we actually got married in March and had the party in September.
