Has anyone been to Oban Mor?
I have never been in there before, but mum and I have to meet someone in there for a drink.

I did see the website for Oban mor, is it a posh place.
Do you have to dress up :?
Oh and before we go in there for a drink, we'd like to pop in somewhere for a quick meal.
So we won't go to the "Chip" that night.
Anywhere near the Oban Mor we can grab a quick dinner.

Thank you.

I'm sure you mean Oran Mor.

No you don't have to dress up to go in for a drink. It attacts all sorts from students to business men. It is of course only a five minute walk from the Chip. While I can't name any I know there are lots of eating places in Byres Road and around the corner in Great Western Road.

Hi Wilson,
Yes that's it, Oran Mor

Okay we can find something to eat nearby, I don't fancy their menu.
And don't want to go to the Chip that day, as I don't want to rush.

I'll do a Google search for Byres Rd.

Thank you Wilson

Sorted

Aye.

We are now being taken on a mini tour of Stirling.
To see the William Wallace Memorial and Stirling Castle.
This is going to be an amazing four days.
I just wish we were staying longer now.

I need to find the train route from Edingburgh to Polmost now.

Karen :D

I have found my train times from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh.
As we will be getting off at Polmost, and not Glasgow Queen Street, do we still ask for a cheap day return?

Or cheaper to buy two singles :?

Thanks

Karen ... do you mean Polmont, near Falkirk ? Where does that fit in with a visit to Stirling ?

It's not just the Edinburgh/Glasgow trains which stop at Polmont, some of the Edinburgh/Dunblane trains stop there too. You will find times and fares at National Rail Enquiries.

 Yes I meant Polmont, near Falkirk.
I have a friend who works there (Polmont), we are going to meet him and his wife.
They have kindly offered to take us on a mini tour of Stirling

I had a look and found the Dunblane or the Glasgow Queen Street train stop at Polmont.

I found fares for one way, but not Cheap Day return :?
I am sure someone said it was £9 return

Does anyone know where KILLEARN CEMETERY is?I know it's in Stirling.
Is it near to Stirling Castle or the William Wallace Memorial?

Thanks

Sorry I meant Killearn Churchyard, and I don't think it is near to Stirling.

Never mind there is always next year

Hi Karen ... Killearn is a village in Stirlingshire, rather than in Stirling. It is about 18 miles north of Glasgow. Haven't you previously mentioned Kilmaronock ? It is in that same general direction.

Bah, those people of Polmont always laying claim to that station .... it's in my village of Brightons!!

enjoy your visit to my neck of the woods, KAZZZZA .... don't forget to check out the Falkirk Wheel!

Oh, and watch the Glasgow Queen Street train from Edinburgh if you are going to Polmont ... i'm not sure they all stop at Polmont, i think they may alternate between Linlithgow and Polmont

Hi David,
Yes we are going to Kilmaronock.
So Killearn is near there? Maybe I can fit it in after all :?
We are going, Clydebank, Kilmaronock then Glencoe.

Thank you :wave

Just a quick report to let you know how the trip went.

We got there on time, and the journey was quick.
First day we went to the Tenement House, which is a great place to visit, all the original old furniture, everything was kept.
We met my friend Anne, and had dinner at the Ã"ran Mor.
Then we meet the lads and lass from the Great War Forum for a wee drink. There was 10 of us, it was great to meet them all, and have a blether.

The next day my cousin Bill picked us up and we went to Clydebank.
I saw all the streets where my ancestors lived, the Tenements were still there, and one of the houses, so that was good to see.
We then went to Balloch where we picked up the keys to the church, thanks to Graham  we didn't have time to "Cock the wee finger" with Graham as we had to be a my 3x great grandparents cottage at 11.10am, the owner allowed has to come up and have a look inside.
It was an amazing experience, my 2x great grandparents were married in the cottage too.
We then had a look around the church and at the gravestones.
We then we to the Green Welly for lunch, then up to Glencoe.Glencoe is amazing, the tops of the hills were in the clouds. It has an eerie feeling up there.
Back to Glasgow.

Next day we went to Edinburgh, we made it by train okay, thanks to Graham again, and his directions
Had lots of luck in the Archives, need to go to Paisley next year now lol
We then went to meet my friend at Falkirk and have a wee look at the Falkirk Wheel, and a mini tour of Stirling.
I got to see the Wallace Memorial.
Seven of us all went out for a meal, which was nice, we were like old friends, they gave mum and I a great time.

On our last day we got the bus to the Barra's, had a look round the market, and we went to the Oldest House in Glasgow.
We were unable to go to People's Palace as it was not open until 12pm that day because of the fair on the green, so that is the only thing we were unable to do.
We ended up doing some shopping down Sauchiehall Street.
Chelsea were playing Rangers, so the cabbie took us to Rangers Ground
I was running around trying to get my brother a programme, but they had sold out
The Rangers fan's must have though I was in the wrong end.
"Excuse me mate, where ya get your programme?" lol
They were all helpful though.
We got our train home with 5 min's to spare!!!
I can't wait to return next year.

We stayed at the Kelvingrove hotel, 944 Sauchiehall Street, again for the second time.
I highly recommend it.It's a family run hotel.
Great breakfast, a big choice.
Lots of Americans were there during our stay, and they all said how great it was.

Thank you to everyone on here who helped me, and gave me great advice.

PS The weather was kind to us too
