Hi Fiona,
Sorry I am confused, is it more expensive to eat in the restaurant or the courtyard?
Oh I get it (I think), it's cheaper to eat upstairs, and you pay £9 extra to eat in the courtyard
I can say we are mature students when we go to the pubs.
The chip looks and sounds very nice, I wont want to come home.
Thanks
K
(My no.1.favourite bar is Bobar at the top of Byres rd...)
Mmmmm now would that be anything to do with the naked photo shoot that was held there
Yes,sorry that was a bit confusing when I read it back.
Meant the location inside the Restaurant.
The courtyard IS particularly special...so lovely in my opinion.
I'm positive you'll enjoy it.
I'm a bit older now,but love the whole atmosphere and particularly the look of Ashton Lane. There are lots of students drinking in the bars etc. but it definitely still attracts people of all ages.
If they'd stuck Bobar in Ashton Lane,I'd be in my element. But then again, that's just my personal preference.
Hi Graham
I had no involvement in that photo shoot whatsoever
It's just a really lovely bar now,in comparison to the bar when it was Studio one. Also somewhere local you can dress up to go to in the evenings and not feel too out of place.
Probably unknowingly seen me sitting outside the Oran Mor enjoying the occasional bit of sun (and a ) then.
No doubt I will have. Nice place too, and nice to see such a lovely old Church having been converted so well by Colin Beattie of the Lismore etc. fame....you'll know who I mean.
Always enjoy it when you sit quietly inside the bar too and hear all the many different conversations going on,not that I'm nosey or anything!
If you ever go into Bobar, take a look at the painting of the nudies on the wall at the left hand side, near the entrance. It's very good.
Was a bit confusing
Naked pic's of whom?
Gragam I will look out for you there
Now Glasgow Green, is that where all the gang's use to meet in "No Mean City"?
I wish they would make a film from the book
Mum and I will have to wear hats, I don't want them to think we are one of the "Hairy's"
These will give you an idea about the opening of Bobar and the nude people.

A film based on "No mean City" is a good idea.
Thanks Fiona
The oldest house in Glasgow, built in 1471.
Is it worth a visit?
And what part of the city is it in?
Thanks
Karen
Hi Karen ... Provand's Lordship is on Castle Street, close to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and just a short bus ride from the city centre, served by local buses and city tour buses. It is opposite Glasgow Cathedral and the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life & Art. More info on Provand's Lordship and all other city museums
So we could visit there on the way to the People's Palace.
Or on the way back from People's Palace, it'll be a nice walk back, to our hotel, before we go home.
Thank you.
Karen
Yes Karen, you could travel either by local bus or city tour bus, between Peoples Palace and Provand's Lordship. You could walk back to your hotel from Provand's Lordship via Cathedral Street and then either Bath Street or Sauchiehall Street. Bus is an option too if you are not feeling up to the walk. Peoples Palace to your hotel would be too far to walk.
Hi David
She loves a market.
What sort of stuff do they sell there?
Is it in the East End?
How far from The People's Palace?
Thank you.
On no, I have just found out that Clydebank Library is closed from 15th July - 7th Sept
Have been to Provand's Lordship...albeit only once, and it was way back approx.1994/95. I enjoyed it and think it would be worth a look.
Have you seen the website for the Barras?
http://www.glasgow-barrowland.com/market/barras.htm
There's a map showing the location on there and how close it is to Glasgow Green.
I used to get taken there by my parents, when I was a child.
They sold absolutely everything you can think of and don't suppose it will be much different these days. It brings back memories of Pink Candy Floss and toffee apples on sticks...when I think of that now...
It's also in the East end.
Think this is quite a good map, where you'll be able to move it around and see the distances between the different Glasgow attractions. The Gold arrow is Glasgow Green. HTH.

That's a pity about Cydebank Library. Too bad about that, but there's always next year,I suppose.
I have seen the Barras website, but I only found it last night.
Toffee Apples on sticks, I used to eat them too no wonder I have several fillings :swear.
I will have to return next year because the War Memorial in Clydebank is not going to be erected now until Nov, it should have been erected when I was there.
I am hoping some kind person on here lives near or in Clydebank and would take a photo for me
My daughter is 4 and she wants one of those "Jimmy" hats, you know the ones, Tartan Hat with Red hair.
She has long red hair anyway
Thanks Fiona.
Karen
My Mum is always telling folks to watch the pickpockets at the Barras, since my late Dad had his wallet stolen there years ago.
I always say stop raking over old coals, that was years ago!!
You can come across these types anywhere IMO and we just need to be careful with our bags and purses no matter where we go.
I know,it's amazing how we can change over the years. I had a sweet tooth like all kids, but I'm a totally different person now and can't stand the Toffee Apples and stuff now.
I remember I used to get them stuck in my long hair when I was small!
Your wee daughter sounds like she's got some of that Celtic blood in her She'll have plenty attitude..and fun.. wearing her see you Jimmy hat.
If I'm still around..that neck of the woods....I'll take that photo of the War memorial for you and post it in the photo galleries.
Good luck with the holiday...won't be long now.
Yeh you have to watch your bag everywhere.
Oxford Street is terrible, and my local market here in London.
I used to love Scottish Tablet, so last year I bought 6 bars, OMG it was so sweet. How did I ever eat that
My mum in law is Scottish, so she has more Celtic blood than me.
And she has a very fiery temper already
Thanks Fiona, but I have just remembered my ex boss, she works in Clydebank as a Social Worker.
I can asked her to take some photo's of the Clydebank War Memorial
Thank you anyway.
Karen
Remember to keep me/even someone in my family in mind for the photos Karen,if your friend can't manage to get them. I'm moving away soon, you see,and not sure exactly where I'm going to end up. Could be outside of Glasgow??
