Hi fellow Greek lovers...
I am off to Kamari soon and wondered if anyone had any advice or tips? Places to go?
I am sure you will love Kamari,we were there a few years ago and plan to go back.
Its very easy and cheap to get the local bus to Fira, which is well worth a visit.Just be very wary of the prices in the restaurants overlooking the Caldera (sea)as one place wanted 5 euros for a coke!
From Fira you can also get the bus to Oia which is a must in the evening to watch the sunset.
Kamari has many lovely restaurants ,many of which have tables by the Beach.
Have a lovely holiday and tell us all about it when you get back!
If you are interested in archeology, you can climb up to the ruins of ancient Fira on the headland between Kamari and Perissa. The 3 and a half thousand year old ruins at Akrotiri are also well worth a visit.
I'm off to Kamari soon too, I have been before about 5 years ago so it'll be interesting to see any changes. Its very close to the airport and its fab watching the planes come in over the bay. Hopefully i will see the sunset this time cos last time my son wanted to go to the loo just as the sun was about to set on a trip to Thira and i missed the whole experience.
In Fira, walk up the Caldera path for fab views, we found a restaurant called the Flame there, we ate out twice and watched the sunset, wasn't too expensive but the food was lovely, the owner was very fussy and threw in some freebies!...the buses were great everywhere on the island and cheap , really smart new Mercedes buses!
We'd like to go back..toying with the idea of hopping across on the hydrofoil from Crete in less than 2 weeks.

Love santorini. Wanted to go this year but strapped for cach and plumped for Lefkas. We loved a restaurant called Nostalga - on front - try their grills if still going. We went last about 4 years ago. Also there was an italian on the front and the chef used to make the homemade pasta on a table outside the restaurant - to die for. Make sure you use the fabulous bus service to Thira - go into Thira mid afternoon and park yourself in a bar overlooking the caldera, sod the cost. Read your books until it gets dusky and then move your bottoms to a restaurant again overlooking the caldera. Have a fantastic, authentic greek meal and then wobble off to one of the out of this world cake shops. Take these home with you on the hilariously cheap and packed bus back to your resort and eat them on the balcony with a coffee followed by a metaxa - if it's your thing - or something else. Pure unadultarated bliss! Sorry I'm staring to get a bit sad now but trust me it's beautiful and the best way to enjoy it is do everything very slowly, like a greek. Unfortunately this island is becoming more popular, commercialised and expensive. GO NOW WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!!!
