Hi bushbaby :wave

I always stay in the south. I find the beaches a lot cleaner and less packed. I go to Goa to relax which I find the south always provides. I have stayed up in Calangut many years ago but found it to be too much like Blackpool in India! I guess it's what each person wants from their holiday. We base ourselves in an apartment in Madel, about 10/15 min walk into Colva, which we find a great base from which to travel down to Mober etc or up to the north by taxi, about 1.5hrs. As for hotels, I've stayed in Radisson White Sands, Varca, Leela Palace, Mober, both very nice, but, very expensive for the time you actually spend in the hotel!! Also stayed in Varca Palms Hotel, would NEVER recommend this to anyone, worse hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world!

hi goanmad tony
i know what you mean -we only ever sleep in our hotel.this time my sister-in-law said we have to have a drink in our hotel just to say we have!
i'm not interested in posh hotels-just clean and comfortable.do you think it is just as reasonable in the south as the north for meals and drinks? we thought it would be more expensive at ashvem than calangute or candolim because it was out of the way but far from it-it was a bit cheaper.sorry dont mean to sound like a cheapskate!

bushbaby,
when we stayed at the radisson we used the swim up bar in the pool for the fun of it for the first few days, that is until we came to settle the bar bill :yikes What we spent in the pool bar would have kept us in beer for 5 days outside the hotel, and I mean all day for 5 days :!: :!: I don't think there is much difference in prices between north and south, I always find if I think I'm being overcharged for something, be it taxis(although we have brought our own tuk-tuk :!: ) or anything I walk away, 95% of the time they will give in to your price. The Seacoin Hotel in Colva is cheap and very pleasent, know of quite a few people who have stayed there and enjoyed it. If I can help with anything more please let me know :)

I love North Goa myself as I love the 'busy vibe' , but I would definately love to try the south some time , I did visit Palolem on my last visit and I thought it was paradise, I could quite easily spend my 2 weeks holiday there.

Still it's back to the north next year for me as we are off to Calangute, roll on March 2008 :D

We were in Baga in January. We decided while we were there that we would not go north again. It has changed so much over the years, :bawl its time to move on.
We have already booked to go south for next season. :D

hi,tony.i stayed in cavelossim about 3 years a go and at the time thought it was a little quiet for me,although a wonderfull place,as i say i may try benaulim or colva, ill have to do a bit of reading up on these two places. :)

Hi Les, I first stayed at the Leela Palace in Mobor, about 10 mins outside Caveloseim, as you say, it's very quite, a bit to quite even for my liking! I think Colva would be a good choice to base yourself if it's your first time "down south", it's so central to a wide area and very easy to reach other areas by taxi, including Benaulim, which I also enjoy visiting. It seems a lot of you "northies" are getting fed up with the way things are changing up there :!: Come and join us "southies" and make your own mind up!! Tony.

No no dont join us Southies, it really isn't nice at all down South its very Cold, it rains all the time. and they don't sell Kingfisher or Honeybee. The beaches are all stony, really really awful.

Hi Bushbaby,
We have booked the Holiday Inn at Mobor beach with Thomas Cook. We havent stayed in the south before so I dont know what the hotel is like from personal experience but it comes highly recommended.
I know that a lot of the hotels in the south are 5* and very expensive but the Holiday Inn doesnt come into that price range. It does look very nice though. If you want details of what it cost etc let me know and I will send you a P.M.
A friend of ours is going the day after us and staying at the Mobor Beach Resort in Cavelossim, she has to pay a single supplement but has still got it at a very good price. Its a smallish hotel with a pool, it looks nice too.
I can give you all the info on that as well if you like.

Hi minnie9 :wave stayed at the holiday inn 2 years back, it's ok, wouldn't class it as high as some tour companies do tho :!: When you go, if you use Mikes shack on Mobor beach, say hello to Kristner and Pepe from me and Chris :)
