Hi Helen

This might help -

Clydebank

The Radnor hotel http://www.theradnorparkhotel.co.uk/

West Park Hotel http://www.westparkhotel1.com/

Boulevard Hotel http://www.boulevardhotel.co.uk/index2.html

All in Clydebank a short taxi ride away from the hospital and will cost just a few pounds to get there in a taxi.

Dumbarton

The Travelodge at Milton http://www.travelodge.co.uk/index.php and is called Dumbarton, this is located just outside Dumbarton at Milton (Dumbuck) about 10 minutes away and will cost about £10-£15 ?? (not sure but will check and update) in a taxi, also in Milton (Dumbuck) you have the Milton Inn http://www.miltoninn.co.uk/

Milngavie / Bearsden

There are 2 Premier Inn's a few minutes apart http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/GLABUM/glasgow-bearsden & http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/GLAWES/glasgow-milngavie it would take approx 20 minutes from there to the hospital and would be about £10 ?? (again not sure but will check and update on here)

Also a couple of taxi operators details although there are others
http://clydebanktaxis.co.uk/

Beardsen & Milngavie Taxis Ltd 0141 956 3946
Station Taxis (Bearsden / Milngavie) 0141 9562222

Castle Cabs (Dumbarton) Phone:01389 761111 , 01389 731111

I hope all goes well with your husbands operation in the Golden Jubilee Hospital which is an excellent modern hospital.

:tup I checked with the taxi companies today and the fares are as I thought, quoted approx £12 from Dumbarton (Milton) and £8 - £10 from Bearsden / Milngavie.

Have to say excellent service and it's posts like this that make HT the success it is.

Totally agree with Wilson. Although my post wasn't holiday related, I don't know where else I could have got so much compehensive advice so quickly
Only wish I had taken up some of rhe recommendations. Got a taxi there -£60. Came back by Public Transport. Taxi from hospital to Dalmuir £5, train fares for 2, £8.50, short walk to bus station and freezing wait. I have a concession card but husband is yet to apply so another £4 and then when we got off the bus, another £3 taxi fare. Total time from leaving hospital till getting home was about 5 hours. So all in all about £80 and NHS is supposed to be free. I am a pensioner and husband is on incapacity benefit of £175 per fortnight but all we were entitled to, producing tickets and receipts was 10p per mile, total about £9.
:offtop Absolutely off topic, but faced with how more appointments for physio, I just need to let off steam.

Sorry,

Helen

A little late perhaps but a daytripper ticket may be of help in the future, depending on your situation. modern hospitals seem to be in the most inaccessible places.

Whilst this is an old thread do they not have Patient Transport Services in Scotland?

Daveyjp,
There are Patient Transport Services which could have saved cash but not inconvienence. We used the patient transport for his initial appointment. As I said on the original post , he is not well early morning but was picked up at 5.15 a.m for an 11.a.m appointment and travelled to another 3 hospitals in different regions on route before arriving at Clydebank. Was out of the hospital at 12.20p.m but not collected for ages and finally arrived home at 7.p.m. By trying it ourselves , we were trying to avoid extra stress. Driving time outwith rush hour is approx 45 to 55 minutes.maybe allow an extra half hour to 45 minutes at the worst times.
Much as I appreciate the reply from Graham and the time he put into his reply, I do realise this is not a holiday query and although there are approx 8 visits to go for 2 further ops and the costs of transport will K.O a holiday this year, we will continue to press for future appointments to be at the General Hospital 10 minutes away. They were evidently falling behind with their waiting lists and that was why he was referred to the Golden Jubilee in the the first place.

The Golden Jubilee was originally built as a private hospital for wealthy people from the Middle East but it didn't really take off the way the owners thought it would. The NHS now uses its capacity to reduce waiting lists and it is also one of the hospitals in the west of Scotland that deals with heart attacks and heart surgery (my dad lives in East Lothian and although he had his heart surgery at Edinburgh Royal, one of his neighbours was sent to Clydebank for similar surgery). Its history is the reason for its location (it's only a few minutes across the Erskine Bridge from Glasgow Airport) and the lack of public transport.
