Hi Benno,
Yes there are a few McDonalds in Varna (prices on the website) - one opposite the Cathedral, where the buses from Golden Sands stop.
Don't know about Golden Sands itself but I'm sure someone else will.

I am posting this message from an internet club in Varna which is much cheaper than Golden Sands . Varna is a great place to shop for clothes. The markets here are good fun to shop for clothes ...lots of diesel , von dutch , D and G , levi etc. The traders on the market are very persistant ...they will quote you a silly price like all shirts 2 lev just to get you to look , once you come to pay the price goes up ...so be prepared for some hard bargaining. I have just bought some lacoste polo shirts for 10 lev each which is probably more than I should have paid but is still only 3 pounds 50 pence each. It costs 2 lev to get the bus from Golden Sands to Varna and is worth doing because everything is so much cheaper here.

ok im excited i cant wait till june 26th i think its is then lol enyone here going hotel kristal golden sands oh yeah could you also post pictures of the fakes you have bought
enyone got pictures of fakes bouht from bulgaria
Not yet... Don't go until the 29th Will probably have to buy another suitcase (or just get rid of all my boyfriends clothes) to bring back everything I want to buy!
lol my sons got 100 pund saved up to turn into lev to buy loads of designers as he is in to all of these designer makes his favourite is sergio tacchini oh yeah has enybody seen moschino hats over there as my son likes em but i just dont like paying 35 quid a hat lol
The jeans are superb quality. They have all sizes. All makes - Miss sixty, D&G, Armani, Von Dutch. Even took up my daughters jeans free (because I bought 2 pairs) - took 1 hour and they were done brilliantly.
My daughters bought back Nike Max, Diesel and Von Dutch trainers last year. In fact I think the Nike Max was the previous year.
Some of the fakes are superb quality - you do have to shop around. My daughter has a Playboy hoodie. It cost approx £10. In our local envy it is £55. It is identical even down to paper tags and packaging.
Your son will love it.
my sons a funny size 34 waist 29/30l so its hard for him to get jeans
Just returned from Golden Sands. Hired a car there through our rep. It cost eur40 for one day to hire an Audi 'A'something automatic (decent sized car) - not bad compared to prices in other countries. However there was no petrol in the car and only enough to get us to the nearest petrol station. Luckily our rep volunteered to escort us there. The main roads were in good condition - driving on the opposite side a bit odd! No problem using the atms for cash but found the limit on most machines was 200 leva (about eur100). However everything is so cheap you won't need as much as you think!
You can ask for colour you want and if not in stock they get it in about 5 mins.
But and this is the BUT.......they are nothing like the real thing. The feel and zips the colours are just poor copies compared to the real thing.
Anyone who has bought a nice Nike sweatshirt knows good quality cotton and sorry folks their fake copy is nothing like as good quality.
You are buying Primart clothes with quite a good brand name sewn on...end of story....stop all this nonesense about great fakes they are not.
Stuart
I have to agree the quality is not great......but you are paying about one tenth to one twentieth of the price of the real thing so what can you expect..... I bought a few tops and if they last me through the summer I will be happy......there are shops in VARNA selling what appear to me to be real branded clothes but you will pay a lot more for these.....pat
I agree
I agree, there are alot of poor quality fakes that are just like buying from Primark.
You really have to shop around.
just returned from 2 wk in golden sands and im a designer label queen but bought nothing and that includes varna. Went to turkey last year and bought loads but bulgaria is very behind in this dept. There is a real MANGO SHOP in varna though and its really cheap.Golden sands is a tourist trap not shoppers paradise!
Ref Macdonalds in Varna, there are now only two. The one behind the opera house opposite Cathedral is now closed. You have one now down near to the Sea Gardens and the other is on the main road to airport almost to the official Bus Station this one has a drive through facility. Tonyt.
apparantly, some brands of nike, addidas, puma etc are made in Sofia and the factories only get pence in the pound per item, therefore they keep 10% back and sell privately

We are thinking of going next summer to Bulgaria and not sure where to go. We have narrowed it down to Golden Sands or Sunny Beach because they seem the busiest.
There are 3 of us hubby and myself (40's) and 10 year old girl. We like to relax part of the time but go on a few trips to see local attractions. Enjoy a drink (or 2!!!) and nice food. Not really into sports or anything too energetic!
Which resort would suit us better? Any advice would be great. Thanks!!
we have been to both resorts and we both ( in our 50's ) prefer SB. Golden Sands is still a nice resort with a lovely walk along the seafront but there again so is SB and you can walk for miles along its seafront.
Everyone will have their own views so stand by for loads more comments.

Personally I preferred GS as SB was just getting too crowded - building as much a people. On the whole GS is quieter than SB but still plenty to do.
Having said that, we are going to Albena this year
John.
You can take your pick, the only really noisy part is Party Street and is easily avoided.
