We went to Obzor last year which is very quiet and un commercialised, very nice if you want total relaxation but not for the youngsters (yet). We hired a car and went to both SB and GS both are commercialised and have a lot more to do, SB is just like any other commercialised resort, great for the youngsters and children but not my idea of a holiday, motorised bikes and scooters on the prom, mc donalds or b king every 500 yards could of been Blackpool if i didn't know better, Just come back from GS about 1/2 the size of SB and with out the bikes and scooters, the party street is there if you want it and the front is divided if you want the quieter life stay the harbour end or the livliest end is the riveria end, stay in a hotel near to the front if you don't want hills. Hired a car again this year and went up to Albena very nice resort nice and flat don't know about the night life thou. Have a great time.
thinking of going to golden sands in september 2007.would like to know if the weather is still usually warm and sunny at that time of year, and is golden sands still lively and busy, and are all the bars and restaurants still open in in september.
The resort is still very lively at this time of year but from about the last week in Sept it starts to close down and I wouldn't recommend going then.
In fact we are already booked up for those weeks next year at the Iberostar Ozbor in Golden Sands.
toonman
I agree with Toonman, we also tend to go around the first two weeks in September. This year was very good weather. No one can predict the weather anywhere, but chances are it will be good.
Peter
I agree with Toonman & Peter - I was in the Varna/Dobrich area this September (5th-26th) the weather was excellent until around 19th/20th, after which most days were thundery and/or very wet.

thanks folks, golden sands sounds as if its quite like sunny beach, could you tell me if there are plenty of things to do and are there any good trips you could recommend
Its great advantage is relatively nearby Varna, a really delightful city and interesting place to visit.
Peter
Several threads have now been merged. Hopefully this will help all those considering the resort.
we enjoyed golden sands it was certainly different people were nice and good food cheap alcohol and tobacco the many prostitutes can be a bit of a pain as there are plenty of them next time we want to visit sunny beach
I'm not really aware of 'the many prostitutes' in Golden Sands, but it may depend on where you are staying and which bars you visit.
My partner and I will be travelling to Bulgaria, golden sands at the end of May for two weeks. We will be staying at Hotel Riviera Beech, and this is the first time to Bulgaria.
I am just wanting to know about the resort and mainly about the hotel really - has anyone been there?
The best places to go/visit?
Beauty treatments - where and prices?
A reliable taxi service (company you would recommend - or are they all privately owned)?
Your favourite pubs for meals in the area?
Also, we're staying at the hotel on a 1/2board basis - how much money do you think 2 people need for two weeks to spend on trips/meals out and daily needs?
Finally, did you take sterling or Lev's (and / or trav. cheques???)
thanks in advance

I suggest that you read THIS THREAD regarding currency/cost of living/spending money - there are 17 pages, but your question should be answered by the last few posts.
I had a look around the spa/health centre facilities of the Riviera Beach on 11th March this year.
The facilities, to my untrained eye, were pretty impressive. They offered a couple of 'Beauty, Health & Wellness' packages (which included B&B plus a variety of treatments from 130 Leva for 2 days or could offer the guest's choice of treatments, ranging from a medical examination for 10 Leva to a 5-day Face & Body Cosmetic programme for 150 Leva or a 5-day 'Thalgo - Slim & Sculpt' programme for 380 Leva.
60 minutes in the gym cost 5 Leva, 60 minutes in the sauna or steam bath cost 10 Leva. The list of possibilities covered 2 sides of an A4 sheet but I hope that the above gives some idea of costs.

1. what is there to do
2.have they gone euro or are they going euro
3. good family hotel
4, average price of beer /food
thanks any other info appreciated ...
1. For starters, see Things to do in Bulgaria, Golden Sands Q & As and Resort Reports, among many other threads.
2. The Euro can't be adopted as the national currency until Bulgaria has operated successfully under the European Exchange Rate Mechanism for at least two years, so 2009 at the very earliest.
3. You could check out the hotel reviews.
4. As the season hasn't yet started, your guess is as good as anyone else's - give it a week or two and we should start receiving reports from returning visitors.
