Sorry if this has already been covered, I did search for a similar topic but I couldn't find anything.

I am going to Los Cristianos in August with the intention of getting a couple of rounds in while I'm there....after I've robbed a bank of course.

Anyway, do the courses in the south ask for handicap certificates and can anybody reccomend any courses for a couple of 22 handicappers?

Hi MF

I actually went with a group of mates on a golfing holiday to Tenerife in June this year. We played 4 courses: Golf del Sur, Las Amarillas, Costa Adeje and Las Americas. Without doubt Costa Adeje was the nicest course, fantastic views (Mount Teide and mountains the one way and the sea the other) and the course was in amazing condition - definitely recommend it. In terms of condition Las Americas was probably the 2nd best although not that scenic as it's surrounded by hotels. Golf Del sur was probably the 3rd best condition wise, but had better scenery than Las Americas (watch out for the planes overhead which are very low - sure you could hit one with a miss hit driver!) Obviously everybody's different but these were the general views of most people on the holiday and even the worst course was still in great condition with everything well watered and lush green.

As for handicap certificates I didn't have to show one at any of the courses but we did book through a company who organise golfing breaks in Tenerife so whether that meant we didn't need to, I don't know. Try e-mailing the courses and see what they say.

The buggies are well worth having as well as although expensive they have little Satnav things which tell you how far to the hole etc etc, great fun!!

I would recommend taking plenty of balls because stray a bit off the fairway and that's generally it, it's lost !! The exception to this was Las Americas which was a little more forgiving.

I would also say play the courses in the week as on a weekend they appear to be busy with locals and members but I'm sure if you contact them they will give you more advice on that.

Thanks for that reply, Carl. I'll get in touch with the courses as regards to handicap certificate.

I have just returned last week from Tenerife where I played on Las Americas and Costa Adeje twice each.

I preferred the Las Americas course, mainly because the rough was very severe and I didn't like the black sand in the bunkers at Costa Adeje. The greens were in better condition at Las Americas although they were working on them at Costa Adeje so maybe this was why they were sandy.

Las Americas has quite a lot of water on the course but it only really comes into play on a few holes.

I don't have an official handicap and I booked direct with the courses. Initially I was told that I either had to have a test with the pro or show handicap certificates but neither asked for certificates and I didn't have to do a test.

If you really want to push the boat out try this hotel here it will be a little more expensive than the others but you're entitled to spoil yourself now and again ;)

MF,

further to the other replies, these sites might be useful for you, http://www.tenerifegolf.es which has details of most courses, but also try http://www.golfdelsur.net , http://www.amarillagolf.es , http://www.golfcostaadeje.com

I know that golf del sur have a "special" package for a full day out, at
125 euros for 2 people, its 27 holes each, a buggy, 80 balls each on the range, and a 10 Euro voucher each for the bar afterwards, I'm sure the other courses will have similar "specials", although 125 euro works out at £44 each or something depending on exchange rate its still not bad for that amount of golf in one day, mind you, be careful in that heat - the bar vouchers might come in very handy!

you might also want to try Los Palos, its a small 9 hole par 3 course just off TF1 towards golf del sur and Amarilla, look at http://www.golflospalos.com which is a great little course for sharpening up your short game and is very reasonable,

whatever you do enjoy it, remember a bad day at golf is better than a good day at work!

Hi we just turned up my mate has a very low handicap (but did not bring) and i have played just a handfull of times i belive it was the americas course (very nice) we both had to do a test with the pro on the driving range my mate took one shot the pro was like away you go after about 4 or 5 he let me go on laughiing that i need the practice which is more than true. I think they just make sure you dont turf up there grass really.

Hi I am going to Santa Maria in November with my OH who is a keen golfer. Are there any reasonable priced courses nearby where a handicap isnt needed(he plays off 14, I just dont play!) so we could both have a game together. The course would not have to be too far away because neither of us drive.I know the Golf del Sur ones recquire handicaps and are quite expensive.
Thanks Helen

All the excursion offices sell golf trips, where a bus picks you up & drops you back afterwards. They even rent out clubs if you do not want to take your own.
Admiral does a reasonably priced trip - have a look click here

Also info on golf courses (many of which are within a reasonable taxi distance to Santa Maria) click here

Thanks for that Nigel. the Los Palos course look it would be ideal, do you know roughly how far it is from Santa Maria just wondering what a taxi would cost, we can book the round on-line.
Thanks Helen

Helen,
Los Palos is 5-10 mins from Las Americas (Santa Maria) so would imagine a taxi wouldn't be that much.

Do you think I should prebook,or just wait till we are there, I am just worried that if I book it now the weather might not be nice on the day.How busy does the course get in November, does anybody know?

Hi,

The winter months are usually the busiest and best times for golfing here, I havn't played in Los Palos for about 2 years, but the last time I played, we need to book a few days in advance, there should be no problems with the weather, temps between 23 and 26c

Cheers

Hi Helen,
my friends and i (8 of us) went to Los Palos golf Feb 2006.
We didn,t book just went along on chance, had to wait a little while. The experience was great, myself being just a novice. The TITSA Bus Service passes the door of the complex,or a taxi which isn,t too dear.

We have booked a holiday to Playa de las Americas at the end of Feb., and would like some information on the Golf in the area,
are there any courses you would particularly recommend? Would it be better to take own golf clubs? Should we book the rounds before we go etc. I would be greatful for any information/recommendations you have as have never played abroad before.
Thankyou
