I watched the end last night where he was dishing out some chicken dish in bamboo plates on the streets to the locals (well selling it :rofl ) I was starving by the finish and nearly rang our local Indian place :tongue

Never had butter chicken at all - assuming its as yummy as it sounds. Have been watching Gordon on and off and liking this so far x

Yep Miss Pink, butter chicken is to die for, dont know what your missing, youve got to try it. Denham.

Is it a Goa Speciality? Going to ask a blonde questions is it just literally chicken cooked in Butter
Reply
Its cooked in a sauce but have found that it can be a different sauce depending on the restaurant. I think the best we and some friends had was in 2002 at the restaurant at dona sa maria in tamborin south goa, fond memories of that. Denham.

Sounds Very good - I will have a little look on the internet to see if there is a recipe to follow

Gordons Great Escape was Brilliant and he really enjoyed himself and obviously loved his Indian experience.

Butter Chicken is my favourite indian dish......its just pure taste bud overload and i agree its to die for! yum yum.
Its not a Goan dish ...its a north indian dish but many of the Goan restaurants have it on their menu as many restaurants in Goa are owned and run by North Indians.

There is a great little restaurant in Arpora, called The Spice Oven beside the Abalone Hotel on the Lagoa Azul Road.It is run by a couple of guys from Manali named Rana and Joe............their chef does the best butter chicken ever!!!!
If any of you are in Arpora give it a try.

I have to go now and wipe my chin......the slabbers are tripping me just thinking about it. lol

really enjoyed the programme but wish he didnt have to swear so much - i think he sometomes bordered on being insulting.

Agree Bushbaby. I enjoyed the programme (even if as a vegetarian I had every right to be offended!!) but his effing and jeffing must be doubly offensive to Indian people who use that sort of language much less than we do. Just didn't really see the need for it.

The thing is......thats part of what he is famous for.....cursing like a trooper!!!

He says things as he sees it..... whether its right or wrong!
Its his persona and probably why programmes like Hells Kitchen and The F Word have been so popular.

BTW The Gordon Ramsay Great Escape book is already out in hardback with all the recipes from the 3 shows in it!

both myself and wife noticed that where he was preparing food for some important people he NEVER swore in front of them
So, is it an act or is he a snob, who thinks that its OK to swear in front of the lower classes but is respectfull of "important" people?

Good programes though and I do think the swearing was genuine in the bull racing clip!
I'd love to have a go at that!

Just remembered the "ant chutney", I will be very wary of any chutney offered now!

Perhaps he thinks that swearing makes good telly :que - I did enjoy the programmes but not the swearing, as has been said it would be insulting to most Indians and it did come across as such a few times and made me cringe. I am not saying that Indians, or myself for that matter never use bad language, nobody is a Saint, but he should really accept the customs of the country he is visiting and keep his foul mouth shut. So unnecessary and it detracted from the main content of the programme. IMHO!!!

loved the programme, the swearing spoiled it a bit because i personaly have never heard Indians or Goans swearing but then again they will in Konkan i would imagine.
I believe Gordon Ramsey has now caught the bug for India :tup

I think the programme is very good, as are his other IMHO. As for his swearing I think that is part and parcel of who and what he is - love it or hate it he is a brilliant Chef.

apart from the swearing the other thing I noticed that showed him in a bad light, was the swimming etc in the meditation pool. The looks on the faces of the other guys in the pool, as he clowned around, said it all.
As far as being a brilliant chef, I have never tasted any food prepared by him so will have to accept the hype that goes with these TV chefs.
Regardless of being a less than 100% Ramsey supporter I did enjoy the programmes.

Seeing as India is suddenly the flavour of the month on TV, can we look forward to Indian Antique Roadshow, Cash in the Slum Attics etc........... or dare I say "Dancing on Rice" :D

:rofl nice one del949! Perhaps we will have a series of "Curry On" Films.

More seriously, I also thought the splashing about in the meditation pool was very insensitive, but I guess Gordon Ramsey doesn't do "sensitive". I doubt I'll ever be able to afford to eat in one of his places so I'll never know how good he is - just hope it's half as good as he thinks!

My wife is completely turned off by Gordons swearing as I'm sure many are, He obviously thinks it's part of his "image" and is done deliberatley. I served my time as an engineer in Scotland, and gained a Masters degree in swearing, but kept it in the workplace. I've no trouble refraining from swearing, but in certain company can lapse back into it seamlessly. I'm sure Gordon and Billy Connelly do it quite deliberately, as they think it makes them seem "cutting edge", I'm afraid in my opinion it simply makes them seem rather juvenile.

The swearing isn't necessary in my opinion either, merely shows a lack of vocabulary and the need to draw attention to himself.
I thought he was rather disrespectful on several occasions and if it wasn't for the fact it was about India, especially Kerala, he would not have had me watching for starters as I stopped watching his other programmes some time ago.
As he's just lost a Michelin star at his restaurant I won't be eating there either ;) ;) ;) ;)
Tonight's India offering should be a very sobering affair though, The Slumdog Children of Mumbai at 9.00pm Ch4. One to watch for sure.

Gordon's recipes are on the Channel 4/Food website including Butter Chicken which is one of my favourites too and I have various recipes for it. Agree with everyone else though about the swearing but admit I do watch all his programmes, he makes everything seem so easy, have collected quite a few of his recipes over the years. Have made a note of The Spice Oven in Apora Bagaboffin and will definately try next year, always on the lookout for new restaurants.
