Can anyone who has been here from the UK please tell me what is the best currency to take: Mexican Peso's or US Dollars? I thought i read somewhere that US Dollars weren't being accepted anymore, but then read on another that most things are still priced in US Dollars??

Thanks! (only 44 more sleeps :) )

You can find plenty of current advice in this dedicated topic http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=50615&start=160 :tup

They are trying to stamp out the drug barons so are not using the $ as much as they used to these days and are encouraging people to use the Peso. :tup

I really ought to get my act togeather with regards research now . We go in about 8 weeks and I havnt even looked at the currency section or checked out the visa situation . I know we have to pay a departure tax but that's about it at the moment .

This is so not like me . :D

Ok we are off at the weekend , staying on Tulum side with a free upgrade to hacienda section. Im just doing some last minute shopping . Been reading the topics here and the confusing ones over on TA on the voltage but my brain is being fried over there with all the candians and americans.
i've also read some confusing posts about the sockets being resessed into the walls .

If i've got this right I need to decide if i'm going to buy a convertor for my GHD's that are the old style and say 220-240 volts 50 hz 35 W or not bother taking them because they will be useless. :cry

but what about other smaller appliances such as phone & ipod charges . Would I need a converter for those too or will they work with just the normal usa adapter ?? also the laptop charger , they are quite hefty arn't they ??

I'm also really confused at the type of converter I would need if i can find one cheap enough and decide to go down that route . There are so many different types and my brain is picked so I'm hoping someone a bit more knowledgable will be able to link me to something . I'm thinking I need the step up type ??

I didn't take a converter and I am not taking one next time. My iphone, ipod and dive torch charged just fine, although things might take a little longer to charge up.

Sorry can't help on the recessed sockets, I am not booked with this hotel.

ah right ,ok feebee . so they wont blow up , just take longer to charge :)

Just back and had a lovely time . stayed in Hacienda section on Tulum side block 34 which is very close to the main pool, buffet and beach. couldnt fault this hotel at all . food , service, choice of restuarants etc, grounds all perfecto :D

Ok maybe one gripe . It is huge and a lot of hopping around on little trains and buses is necessary if you want to venture to the other sections or even if your rooms are not located close to the main areas. It was hot and very humid and waiting around for those is not our idea of fun especially at busy times .

luckily with rooms being where they were we avoided it much of the time and chose to stick where we were . we have enough of the london underground during our normal week and with 6 of us tempers started to flare and we all got tetchy when we had to wait at bus stops and get on packed buses . The one up to coba of an evening was particularly bad .

You should try to book your A la carte bookings in advance Apollo. I emailed guestservicesptulebahia-principe.com in advance with requests for Arlequin, don pablo, le gourmet, Gran tourtuga, mediterraneo mikado and tequila in advance . Also asked for high floor block 34 or 35 . (we got 34 but it was a ground floor). They did email back and said to do it on arrival but I had read it would be difficult to get the popular ones if we didnt get booked so I pushed it again and they came back with all bookings made . Have to say though that we enjoyed the buffet restaurant just as much .

Arelequin, don Pablo and le gourmet are the only ones that have a dress code . Men need to wear shirt and long trousers .

Any more questions just ask . Will get my review done when I have recovered from my jet lag :D

The dress code thing is more for the misses she is worried she might over or under dress any info on what the ladies are/should wear on an evening

Thanks for the hints so far

Another quick question what plug adapters are needed to conver uk 3 pin when looking myself some say 3 flat pin and 3 cylinder pin so a little confused

Thanks again

2 pin flat american style ones Rob . I took the round European style too as I had read you could of used both but just asked my husband and he seems to think only the flat pin could be used . Definately the only socket he used where the coffee machine was plugged in was for flat only but you have me wondering now because Im sure our mozzie plug in had the round pins and it got plugged straight in wiithout the adaptor .

As you can pick them up very cheaply on amazon i would take both because it may be that some rooms are different .

Remember though that it is 110 volt there . small items such as chargers worked fine but tell your wife heavy duty stuff like GHD's wont work unless she has the newer dual voltage type.

yes i will check her GHD's she cant live without them! sure they are 240v-110v 50hz but better double check, you could have saved me a telling off for two weeks there for not thinking of that!

only 4 weeks on monday left now until we go i better get some smart clothes so not to be banished to the buffet while she wines and dines herself at the a la carte.

right better get looking on amazon for the adapter have to make sure my nintendo 3ds can be charged dont want to have to listen to her for the whole 2 weeks

and hope the hurricane season is over by the time we get there but just in case i will buy a kite

another quick one What are the hasienda rooms like? and what do you get in them?

Thanks again

I dont think the hacienda rooms are any different to be honest . You get 2 extra A la carte bookings if you want them and you can use the Tequila Restaurant for breakie in the morning which I think is the only bonus . Oh and half an hour free internet in the hacienda (club diamond ) lobby.

I found the internet use rather difficult if Im honest . If you have a laptop you can take and are able to charge it you can pay for internet use in your room .they also hire them but never enquired as to the cost . I thought I might be in trouble if I got hooked there as well :D . In the main reception you could use your own laptop free of charge but I tried that and got nowhere.
