Have just found out about a great app for the Android (and I'm guessing Iphone too). It's from the market place and it's called Flightradar 24. It shows what planes are in the sky in live time and gives their flight numbers etc, Very handy if you're seeing if your plane is going to be at the airport on time before you fly! The app is free unless you buy the pro version for a couple of quid!
It also runs as a website which gives more info as when you click the plane it shows you loads of info about the plane with pictures and info of it's journeys over the last few weeks. The website is http://www.flightradar24.com/
Enjoy
I have been using plane finder on my phone for a while , Living on the south coast we have loads of lucky people zooming over head whilst we are in the garden off on there hols and its great to know where they are going to.
yeah, but then one drops off the radar and you're left thinking, 'what the BEEP happened to that plane' lol
tell me this doesn't try to do the "radar" screen on your phone! A lot of us use the PC version with live tracking but the screen gets a bit busy even with a decent monitor. With that you can see planes drop off the system where there isn't an amatuer transponder feed, most common over former Yugoslavia where the Greek and Turkish holiday flights disappear for an hour or so!
It overlays onto google maps steve. Its great and great its free too..
I don't think my eyes could cope with it on a phone!! the map plot isn't guaranteed accurate so don't panic if it seems to crash at the last minute - I was waiting for someone off a flight into Manchester in June, it appeared to land in the centre of Altrincham!
I use it on my laptop and have it stored in my favourites. As you say Steve, the screen is very 'busy' and sometimes slows things down.
My hubby is an aircraft engineer and also an avid fan of the site you are writing about,he seems to spend hours on the laptop.
It is great, I use it on my iPhone, also worth looking at is the Plane Finder (and Ship Finder) app,
Shipfinder for PC....
Also - whenever I look at it, I do understand why we have air traffic control.
The density of planes in the air over Europe is normally incredible.
Great applications - thanks folks
http://www.marinetraffic.com for ships. It gives estimated time of arrival, speed, destination, ship details and photographs.
