Thinking of booking somewhere in Greece for 2006
Anyone recommend a quiet resort/island.
A few bars with music and nice restaurants.
Also looking for a good 4star hotel.
All replies welcomed.
Thanks
Just because you're not in a hotel, doesn't mean you have to cook and clean for yourself - they usually have daily maid service and if they are more than about 15 minutes' walk from the nearest village (i.e. shops and tavernas), you often get a car thrown in for the price.
Take a look at some of these websites for ideas -

try san stefanos (nw) corfu
hope that helps! x
For goodness sake, have nothing to do with Simply Travel - a once decent company that has been utterly ruined by TUI.
Yes, I posted my links, including Simply, before that message was posted on the Corfu forum. After reading it and posting a reply, I immediately reretted including them in this thread, but unfortunately you can't edit posts once they're there.

As I'm obviously reGretting again
Thanks for the links xenosuk they will be very helpful for our trip in September. Don't worry I didn't save the Simply Travel one!
It would explain a lot as we were hoping to go and stop next May but strangely enough we have found that Harry with the Charalambous apartments is no longer with any tour operators. Luckily we have been offered Harrys phone number to allow us to arrange our own DIY holiday.
What are the big companies trying to do with the small apartment owners???
who/what are TUI excuse my ignorance!
Thomson holiday group
Yes, Simply Travels' brochures include Simply Greece, Simply Ionians, Simply Crete and ones for lots of other countries.
TUI is a German-owned conglomerate who took over Thomson some years ago and now includes Simply, Austravel, Crystal & Jetsave among others.
It is so frustrating as Harrys used to be all that we wanted - apartment taverna beach without eve ncrossing a road

We have travelled with them twice previously. Going to Zante with them later this year. Good varied selection of apartments & small hotels in good locations.

san stefanos (nw) corfu sounds nice, a friend of mine has just come back, its hassle free and very relaxing, only a few restaurants/bars, im hoping to swop my apartment for 2 weeks with someone with an apartment there-fingers crossed
If you want a very peaceful holiday that's the place to be I think, there are hardly any tavernas and only 1 or 2 shops (well, that was 13 years ago but still).
Being Greek whenever I am asked I recommend Santorini. I went last Easter stayed in the most lovely hotel in Firostefani (called Sunset), not 5* but clean, comfortable and the owner was super friendly not just to myself but my non-Greek company.
The views from the hotel were stunning!!!
It's not the quietest island in Greece but if you avoid the summer months you will be in for a surprise.
