I'm going to try one of the taster (half day) scuba dives.
Anyone know how much it is to book via the hotel (Sensatori) & where you go?
Thomson have an offer on at the moment if you book direct with them
Discover Scuba Diving
First, we'll pick you up from your hotel for an introductory briefing. Then it's time to practice breathing underwater on a fun training dive in confined, shallow seas very similar to a swimming pool. Once you feel at home with everything, it's on to a proper shore dive around a shallow reef,
£45 (usually £55).
Will be holidaying with my sister, she won't dive. But wouldn't mind coming along & sunbathing on the beach/boat. Do Thomsons or the hotel dive centre offer this?
I guess what I'm asking is do I dive with Thomson or the hotel dive school?
Anyone dived with either?
I am aware that the Sensatori is a Thomson hotel, but the Thomson excursions will have been running this dive prior to the Sensatori opening.
Any advice on the best PAYG sim I should buy for my phone (I'm going to bring an old basic handset).

Dive with the hotel dive school..all Thomsons would do is book you in with the hotel dive school anyway and cream a little bit off the top for themselves.
In essence what you are doing is called a "try dive"
Many hotels offer a free go to thier guests anyway during your stay, especially if you are staying on an AI package..which is done by the hotel dive school.
Talk to them directly.

I don't want a free go in the hotel pool, I want a proper dive in the sea.
Interesting you say Thomson would just book me in at the hotel school, I didn't know that.
Thomson is only £45, I wonder how much the dive school at the Sensatori is.
Thank you

I agree with Val Kim .. Thomson will NOT have their own dive centre and will just be using one of the many in the area . What they are offering may change in resort anyway because many hotels in sharm actually have their own house reef where try dives would be done from, in which case no boat for the day . I would check when you get there but most dive centres would charge about that , possibly a bit more for a try dive . I think it's a bit misleading that that are calling a "try dive" discover scuba diving because dive centres will run a padi discover scuba that is a bit more money than a try dive and gives you a little credit against a open water certification. Having said that looking at the price it's probably a waste of money .. better to do the try dive and then if you like it go for the padi open water course .
Just had a quick google and sounds like the dive operator is Ocean College on site at the sensatori although whether they just have agent or dive centre based there is hard to tell but according to posts on TA they are doing house dives .. you wont go far wrong with them . I would wait until you get there Kim but my preference would be to use them because thomson probably wont have a clue what they are selling you .

here you go kim ocean college just do the padi discover scuba and it is in essense a try dive but a bit of credit towards open water http://www.ocean-college.com/LearnToDive/DiscoverScubaDiving.aspx ..
Sounds like thomson use them anyway but you will get proper professional advice by going direct . Not a bad price actually .The dive centre at the hilton where we go charge 110 euros for the same thing or 50 for a "see how you like it" on the house reef .

You get a go in the pool first before they let you in the sea..nobody in thier right mind lets anyone go for a try dive straight in the sea. The hotel dive school would do thier basics in a hotel pool..that bit can sometimes be free, then you only pay if you decide you like it and still want to do the try dive in the sea.
You get some time in the pool first while they teach the very basics about the breathing and essential things such as reg recovery and what to do if you get water in your mask, hand signals etc..
then when you have mastered that and feel confident, they kit you up and you get a go in the sea...usually on the hotel reef in a protected area where it is shallow and there are no currents.

Be careful doing these half day dives if you arent qualified in open water, often they will take you down with no experience and no training. diving is a dangerous sport without any idea of diving. I am a qualified diver and an assistant diving instructor, I have seen people down quite deep even for qualified divers so please be aware of this.
