A few months ago I transferred my balance from Halifax to another card. A month later I had a statement to say I still owed 60p (presumably the interest from my previous statement until date of transfer). I therefore sent them 60p and the next statement showed I still owed them 16p. Not wanting this to go on ad infinitim I went into one of their branches, explained the situation and handed over 25p cash to ensure it was covered. Today I received another statement, showing the account was closed with an 8p credit balance and giving me details of when I had to pay £0.0p So far they have spent more on postage than the original 60p and I just wonder how long this will go on for.
Just had a similar experience with Nationwide.

Well there's no way I'm phoning them, nor am I going to waste time going into a branch when I'm next in the town. If I get another one I'll either just bin it or sellotape it up again and 'return to sender'.
I had about £2.63 in an old Nationwide account & for years would repeatedly get statements showing my balance which I just ignored. Eventually I phoned them up, they couldn't transfer it without me going into the branch so they posted me out a cheque.
Years ago I used to be a bookkeeper so recognise the satisfaction of a zero balance so I kind of understand.

A couple of years ago my brother opened an Isa at a Halifax branch with that years allowance, over £5000, and yes - they lost it. It took MONTHS for the Halifax to find it.
omg well hopefully all will be ok luck has it I live opposite the branch so can easy pop in and give them greif lol
I few weeks ago I received a letter from Mint (credit card) it said I had a credit balance, you hear about credit card fraud so I phoned them - apparently they have gone back through their system and have found some credit balanced from 2004 - she told me the credit had been credited to my bank account - I asked which one - she couldn't tell me - so I said I probably didn't have the account anymore - idiots

This was put in place so as not to risk HT being sued for libel in certain cases.
