Are you sure you've got the name right since I've never heard of the Venus Hotel in Malta! I hope it's not, as you've suggested, the Reuben Court renamed.
Sliema2 and Dave - do you know anything about this?
Trev
Hi Trev, I have to say that I have never heard of this hotel ot anything that sounds remotely like it.
The salesperson told me it had been completly refurbished - that should be interesting to see!!
I booked yesterday to travel next week. The web site still lists the Rubens and does not even mention the Venus.
Instead of self catering it is now half board. I am thinking of offering to pay a supplement so that I dont have to eat there!! It has less stars than the Palm Court!!
There are a lot of negative comments on the Net regarding the Rubens.
What has to be considered is that you get what you pay for. On my previous 4 visits to the Rubens I have had no complaints. I have had a good bed and constant hot water. I have never seen a cockroach nor an ant. If I am not sleeping or showering, I am out exploring the beautiful island. OK - it was past its "sell by date" . They have now refurbished it.
Watch this space when I return to UK at the end of the month.

I have just returned from the Venus which was called Rubens last year. The room I stayed in had been converted from self catering ie they have taken the sink and cooker out and put a wardrobe in the tiles around what was the sink are still there. Before I went I read the comments on the Palm Court and what was the Rubens and to be honest most posts had it spot on ie the star rate is way too high and even after a lick of paint it still is a bit tackey.BUT I fully agree with most folks comments "You get what you pay for" And the price I paid I was over the moon the food might lack a bit in the way its presented but I found it ok.The staff appear to be jolly and helpful and the only place you had trouble getting a seat at night for a drink was the Palm Court if its that bad how come folk flock there at night from other accomodation.
Its in the Middle of Qawara across the street from the Palm Court and there are two pools one in the middle of the court yard and down a flight of steps there is a childs pool. You can also use the Palm Courts Pool. The beach at Qwara is rocks and not any good for kids the best beach's are up towards Gozo and can be reached by local bus about 250 yards away from the Venus. If you want to hire a car "Freeways" just outside the Palm Court do good deals and have been going for many years.
Many thanks

A few things First of all if this is your honeymoon dont be a tart ar** get a proper holiday booked (Soz but had to be said) If you carnt get out of the booking ask to upgrade to the Qawra Palace it wont cost a lot and its more up market and more like you would take somebody for a Honeymoon. The Venus pool is in the middle of the hotel so rooms look down on it from four sides. The Palm Court is similar except its got one painted wall to look at.Jump a bus it costs coppers to get to the good beach's up south.
just got home from malta flight going out was great but didnt like the return having to give up at 6 in the mornig to come home. well what can i say about the acomadation well i said said we where staying at the venus but when we got there to check in we were told we were at the palm court so we go over to palm court and told we are in the venus we said no so they checked and booked us in when they give us our rooms they give us one on the third floor and one one the ground floor on oppsite side of hotel i can honest say i have stayed at the palm court twice before but this was the worst time ever food was ok but the rooms were dirty i know a lot of peole were complainting but u do pay for what u get. and are thinking of not going there again of course i will go to malta agian isand birll peole brill ive been 8 or no 9 and will many more times yet with my daughter
Anyway has anyone got any pictures of the hotel Venus they could put on the board please, thanks so much.
We have just got back and basically agree with what others are saying. It has not been 'refurbished' but may have had a lick of paint. If you want pictures look at rubean court ones as they are pretty much as they are with a lick of paint. new sofas in the lobby though! OUr room was changed from self catering as someone said but was clean... apart from the toilet brush which was minging! We were disappointed that the balcony and pool did not really get much sun and the few sun beds were usually occupied. As there are not really beaches there was a lack of places to sunbathe however there are a lot of beach clubs which looked nice and were fairly cheap! We hired a car and went to some lovely beaches melliah, which is easy by bus and the beautiful paradise bay which is very seculded although i'm not sure on busses. In terms of food we weren't mega impressed. Avoid bayside on the front as it's poor service and food not so great. We loved Chez Gueatane. (the red on on the square) Howver we did have a lovely relaxing holiday and would probably go back again.
Would definitely recommend getting out on the buses and visiting some of the great beaches within easy reach, also go to Gozo for a day trip, LOVELY!!
Thanks Malta-Bargains! We will be going again!
oh ...and take some flash bathroom and a scourer with you....dont worry though, youl have a nice time... didnt see any insects or really discusting things, just the bathroom wasnt immaculate but hey?
food wise, it aint brilliant but its eddible, the dining area isnt very nice though so we ate at a place on the front, forgot what its called but it has a glass front and you can sit outside facing the sea,,,food is pretty good there...
anyway, have a good honey moon, get yourselves on some nice trips to the bech and sicilly etc...
john
p.s... them timeshare touts are all
