If you are the type of person whose sole purpose on holiday is to drink beer or spirits from when you get up in a morning, then to get plastered in the evening, then being loud and obnoxious, vomiting in the gutter; then you will certainly feel the pinch. But to be quite honest, I don't have any sympathy, and the less I see of it, the better.

Sorry i really don't see a need a for this paragraph.

Surely wines inexpensive, lager and spirits are more expensive would of been enough, rather than just to tar everyone with the old brits abroad tag. I haven't seen much of the the above when in lanzarote. :que

I agree Chivas, although there's nothing I hate more than the loud and obnoxious drunks, people like Helen and myself who enjoy quite a few drinks during our fortnight away will also feel the pinch.

Back on topic, I think Lanzarote's similar to many places, if you don't take the time to look around and sus the place out you won't find where the best deals are to be had. Mum and dad flew home last night and although I haven't had a good chat with them yet, he told me on the phone that during the first few days they found it really expensive but as they spent more time looking around, did manage to find more affordable supermarkets and bars.

:rofl Very funny Chivas. Note I took the time to punctuate correctly . Or reading it again, my comma should have been a full stop :D

OMG! Why am I getting flamed for something I never actually said? I say again, I DID NOT TAR EVERYONE WITH THE SAME BRUSH!! I have already explained that, yet still people say I am!

I shall set this out clearer, shall I?

I do not think that every person who drinks beer or spirits does it to get drunk.
I do not think that everyone who does get drunk, gets obnoxious.
I do not think everyone who enjoys a drunk is the stereo-typed "Brit abroad".
I do not think that Lanzarote is full of the stereo-type brit abroad.
I acknowledge that we will all feel the pinch.

Is there anything else I have to correct that I didn't actually say?

Can anyone actually point out WHERE I actually said anything they accuse me of? Apart from the word "then" instead of "and".

Do your mum and dad remember where abouts these are, please, Shirley?

Hi Good_Queen_Bess,
I haven't spoken much to my parents yet as they only got home this evening. They stayed in my sister's close to the airport last night and only did the 4 hour journey home this evening. When I have a proper chat with them, I'm sure they'll give me all the details. I'll let you know when they update me :)

Have booked my flights already for our holiday in july , this will be our 5th visit in 4 years as we enjoy being in playa blanca and find our holidays there tick all the right boxes, quality accomodation (we rent private villas), relaxing atmosphere, great places to eat out, friendly people , and fantastic weather.
I've noticed flights have increased in price , but managed to get this years for £180 each all in, villa prices have remained fairly constant, car hire has only gone up slightly , but the biggest difference we will notice this year will be the euro exchange , it was 1.20 last year and 1.40 the year before, we usually eat out every night and spend about 50 euros so obviously it becomes more expensive now , i'm still quite happy with our projected overall cost of the holiday and still feel its value for money , perhaps we will be a bit more careful though.
Our total cost will be about £1600, with the euro problem accounting for about £120 , i just hope local prices haven't gone up by a ridiculous level

We fly out in 5 weeks time and got a fairly good flight and accom deal by booking separately.

I also hope that the prices in the resort (we're staying in PDC) haven't gone up by too much. I know the euro is going to affect us a fair bit with the exchange rate being low, but although we don't over indulge when we're away (well not every day anyway)!! :D Its not nice to feel you're having to watch where you eat or how many drinks you have.

Anyone just come back who might beable to suggest nice places to eat drink which seem quite reasonable?

We're gonna enjoy it anyway - not going to wait all year to come back here then spend time worrying too much about how everything costs more!! :think :cheers

Three restaurants in PDC I can totally recommend for quality of food at very reasonable prices...

La Lonja, right on the harbour facing the ferry terminal. If you like non-smoking go upstairs.

La Chalana (The Flatboat, although the sign mis-spells it as Flatbout). It's a small cafe-like place on the road above the harbour. Walk up from La Lonja, turn left and walk about 1/2 mile and just past a place with "Monkey" in the name it's on the right at a corner.

The Chinese ( I think the East Wind, but not sure) just above the harbour. As you walk down from PDC main st. to the harbour it's just before you turn left down to the harbour area.

We have used all three frequently and reckon you cannot beat them. All frequented by locals, which is always a good sign. All subjective personal taste of course.

Agree with you on La Lonja, and La Chalana Pollensa :cheers I don't eat chinese, so no idea on that one!!!

I think everyone has to get this into perspective........I posted on the other page how much my groceries cost last week, which I didn't think was an unreasonable amount to be paying. Also, I have seen no evidence of restaurants reprinting menus with higher prices on them, therefore I HAVE to think, it is the exchange rate which is causing the main problem. I also don't tend to drink much while I am out, so can't comment much on drink prices. I would say though GQB, that I haven't found wine per glass at those prices in a long time, unless I go outside of the tourist areas!!!! :cheers

Good_Queen_ Bess - when I 1st read your post it came across to me as being a bit "high & mighty" although I certainly agree with the point you made. Having re read it - & my own, I probably came across exactly the same way -so I'll extend an olive branch. Will you shake on it :tup

Mum and dad have just been up to visit me and said they really enjoyed their first visit to Lanza last week and the only downside was the cost. Saying that, they do enjoy a few drinks and living in Wales are used to paying reasonable prices for them. Dad said that in one bar they had 1 pint, 3 gins and a bottle of tonic- he was appauled that they charged 17 euros :que I pointed out that that was quite reasonable. He also said that he couldn't believe that they'd spent 400 euros the first week although they didn't eat out much. I think he must be living in the dark ages as when we went to Costa Del Sol last Easter we spent almost £700 for the week :really

The Supermarkets were expensive though. He reckoned lots of things were almost 3 times the price of Asda and the likes. They found a Spar during the second week, where the prices were a bit more reasonable. His tip was to eat out where they had offers as it worked out a fair bit cheaper than eating in.

Sorry, they can't remember the names of the places they went as they went to so many places.
They want to warn people about the exchange place close to Dubliners bar. He said the 3 people working there tried ripping them off and were quite arrogant. It's also a tobacconist and they tried diddling another woman who came in the same time as them.

Ive been reading some of the latest posts with interest. One of my friends lives in Lanzarote, (7 years now) near to Playa Blanca and she tells me that supermarket prices have gone up of late but what you have to remember with Lanzarote is that everything is imported. So, when prices increase everywhere else as we all know, Lanzarote will as well plus a bit more to cover the cost of importing. Its always cheaper to buy in the markets rather than the supermarkets if you can and eat/drink where the locals eat and drink. Its always much cheaper and usually much more fun! ;) Feliz vaccaciones :)

Well, prices have gone up everywhere. I suppose Lanzarote is no different.

It won't stop me enjoying my holiday. xx :sun2

Very true Karen, unfortunately Lanzarote has no fruit and veg markets to speak of, which is such a shame. There is one in Tias, and another in Haria on a Saturday morning, but the rest of the time you do have to rely on the supermarkets.

Yes, youre right Madsue - again because they have to import everything. There are a few farmers but because of the climate etc, they grow very little and once they have taken what they need, there is little to sell. Great climate but it does have its drawbacks. This also means the supermarkets can virtually charge what they like :(
