it is probably 25 years since i was in tenerife.we stayed in playa de las americas and it was a very busy place then. at that time los christianos was a small port, but it is now attached -through all the buildings that have been put up- to PDLA.
PDLA is a bit like lloret, but 10 times busier/noisier etc
you need to be in the south of the island to get the best weather and best beaches, and to find a resort that is on the quieter side i think you need to look for somewhere to the west of PDLA.

Thanks Jim :tup

I will take your views on board and see what cheapies I can find. Feeling a bit apprehensive about going somewhere different, but looking forward to a week in the sun (hopefully!) :sun2

Having visited Lloret de Mar and Playa De Las Americas, I can safely say that Playa De Las Americas is definately the more up market of the two and has a much safer feel than Lloret does. I didn't think Lloret was a bad resort, infact it was nicer than I expected (admiteddly my expections were very very low) but I didn't like the feel of the resort at night, much rowdier than Las Americas (Las Americas is not the 18-30 haven it once was, apart from one very small area of the resort known as Veronicas which is easily avoided)

The southern area of Playa de Las Americas around the area of the Hotel Vulcano, Hotel Bitacora, Apartments Parque Santiago and Apartments Parque de la Paz is a really lovely area, no lager louts, lots of good shops and bars and a pleasant seafront stroll into Los Cristianos. You will also have no trouble sleeping as there are no banging nightclubs in this area at all.

I think it would be very difficult to be disappointed with this part of Tenerife and I'm sure you would be very pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for that Mark :tup

After searching the internet and travel agents windows the last couple of weeks, we have finally booked a week's holiday in Playa de las Americas at Las Piramides apartments, departing Luton airport at 7.00 am on Tuesday, 18th November. The cost, including all extras and inflight meals is £492.00, which we are really pleased with. We read lots of opinion sites and there are good and bad comments about it, we aren't expecting luxury for that price, we basically want somewhere to sunbathe around the pool and somewhere to wander around in the evening, and this seems to fit the bill. We can't wait to go now.

Thanks again for your help :cheers
