me and my girlfriend have decided on a nice weeks holiday in September. However we are not sure on where yet.
We would like lovely sandy beaches with clear sea, a nice selection of restaurants and places to eat in the evening, with some classic entertainment if we need . we dont want somewhere overly party style, just the odd quiz or live music with a man playing the guitar in the corner of the room jobby !!
we want it to be nice and coupley and romantic, where we can stroll on the front, and it all nicely lit up, with a choice of nice resturants and bars for us to wander around. certainely not ' dead ' and 'quiet' but , we dont want it busy either, just not wanting to be the only people in the restaurant. we are a classic couple really, we want nice big golden ( sandy) beachs for the day. then go home and get showered and changed , have a nice walk around, we dont mind walking at all, so a nice few pretty and atttractive places all lit up would be ideal.
we'd like a nice share of shops/markets/boutiques to check out and basically have a nice little wander!.
we dont want to go to a tiny resort with only about 10 little shops and 5 restaurants and a lovely beach. as we would get bored very quick i think.
so we woiuld like to walk around, maybe along the beach or seafront, and have little bars to go in with a little bit of entertainment and a few people enjoying thereselves . we are 28 and 29 , we are not wanting a quiet distant holiday , but certainly not an overly loud pub/bar with music pumping out and down the street untill 6am . we just want a nice, romantic, relaxing , place to walk about , and plenty of shops , restaurants , and a lovely beach , with entertainment to keep us happy. it needs to be hot , and shorts and t-shirt weather in the evening !! thats a must ... we are planning to go in september , around 8th.
were thinking - Portugal ( algarve) , Cyprus , Gran Canaria, Malta , Rhodes maybe, Crete ?? hmmm ... HELP PLEASEEEEE !!
any suggestions on my preferences, would be really good. as we are struggling to pin-point a place to go.
thankyou very very much !! i just hopew we get a lovely place and wont get bored after a day, becuase we have seen it all in 2 hours!!
How about Molyvos or Petra on the Greek island of Lesvos? Nice towns to wander around, interesting shops, decent restaurants. Lesvos is the third biggest Greek island so there's plenty to see around the place, petrified forest, monasteries, Greece's premier lesbian resort...(especially if you have the hots for Andrea Dworkin)... Seriously, it's a great place for a couples holiday, there's no that much for kids to do so it's fairly children free.
Cyprus: Avoid Aya Napa....Fly into Paphos and you'll do better. Troodos mountains are amazing.
Gran Canaria: false and naff in every sense
Malta: hot, dry but interesting....not many nice beaches. Try st. Paul's bay area
Rhodes: a few interesting sites but geared to Brits
Crete: something for everyone. If you want the security of British company then head east...otherwise hit the Chania area and don't miss the White Mountains.
Crete has everything the others have and plus some!
Theres only one place i would say to go we have there twice and its The Grand Hotel in crete out of this world its got everythink 3 pools one of them a relaxing pool fantastic place its in between stalis and hersonnois just booked again online with Direct Holidays 2weeks halfboard for 2people £998 a bagain.
Cheers Andy
