It's going to be my 30th birthday soon and hubby's going to treat me to a holiday . We were thinking of going skiing however we only went last month, and prices have gone up so are looking at going somewhere else. We've never been on a cruise before, and we both really fancy it. We have seen a cruise leaving on the 11th March (so not long to go), with Thomsons. It's the Island Escape-colourful coasts. The price we are getting for a week full board with a drinks package inc (free drinks from 10am -2am) is just over £1,300 for the 2 of us. That sounds like a good price doesn't it . What I would like to know please is :-
1. Is it a good cruise?
2. Is it a good price.
3. Anybody know of a better deal.
4. Canaries weather in March.
5. Quality of food.
6. Do I take summer clothes or winter clothes, really posh clothes, casual clothes or just smart clothes.
I think that's it at the moment. If there's anything else you can tell me then please do so. Thank you in advance

There is normally just one formal night on a 7 night Thomson cruise, the rest are smart casual.
Weather in the Canaries is pretty good all year round.
Here is a copy of a fairly recent bar list to give you an idea of prices

Great thanks for that. I can only go on the week stated as that is when I have my week off from work. I have just booked . I better take a trip to the chemist to buy motion sickness tablets
Sorry forgot to ask I presume the currency I will need is Euros? Is it Euros I need for the day in Agadir aswell ? Thanks
Lou, the currency for Morocco is the Dirham so I'm not sure that they'll accept euros. Although, thinking about it I'm sure they did advertise bags etc in Euros in our hotel when we stayed there last year.
There is a previous topic on this cruise itinerary HERE which may have some useful information.
I can highly recommend Stugeron for motion sickness. The crossing from Lanzarote to Agadir can be a bit choppy so I would recommend taking a tablet half an hour before the ship sails. There is a topic on seasickness HERE

Santa Cruz-Las Palmas-Santa Cruz de la Palma-Funchal-Agadir-Arrecife-Santa Cruz.
Thanks for the heads up on the choppy crossing.
Like you when we did our ever first cruise, I honestly thought we would all need motion sickness tablets. Never needed them as we could never tell we were actually on a ship and moving
When we arrive in Tenerife airport, we will be transferred to the ship (transfers included). How far is it from the airport (south Tenerife) to Santa Cruz please. Do we then board the ship straight away or are we kept waiting somewhere first?
Marlou when we boarded with RCI in Barcelona we were dropped off at the port by taxi. Then we went into what I called the departure bit and joined the queue. we got our tickets and went and boarded the ship straight away
At the cruise terminal you will check in where your photo will be taken for your cruise card/boarding pass and they will take a swipe of the credit card you will be paying your onboard account with. You need your cruise card to get on and off the ship and you also use it to pay for anything onboard in the shops and bard. Even though you are AI there are supplements for some of the drinks, including champagne which I know you are partial to.
In the restaurant a glass of wine is included in your AI, but a bottle isn't. However you can have as many glasses as you want.

I've been on this ship before Marlou and going on again 25th March, so not long for me too _ I'm doing the Canaries, Madeira and Morrocco which I think is the same as yours. The ship is more informal that all of the Thomson ships, the last time was approx 7 years ago and I did enjoy it then. I hope that you both enjoy it, and let me know the good bits when you get back.
Not when I have to pay for it after forking out for a drinks package . We have asked for one to be in our cabin on arrival thoughluci HT Mod wrote:including champagne which I know you are partial to.
Miss Pink I'll have all the gossip for you on our return
Thanks Lou - what deck are you on?
7,8 or 9. We didn't upgrade we just had what was included in the price.
Oh OK well I hope you enjoy it Lou x
I highly recommend you stay on the ship at Agadir
hey has anyone been on thomsons island escape this year believe went for refurbishment any comments please
We did the same cruise a while back and I agree with the others -
Don't leave the ship at Agadir unless you are on an organised trip. It might cost a bit
more but at least you should come back with good memories because you have seen
the best bits - not where the taxi drivers want to take you to or charge you for.
If I ever went on a cruise again, I would definately up-grade to at least a cabin with a window.
We thought we had done that but all we had was a porthole and the only way I could look out
of it was to sit on my Hubby's shoulders whilst he stood on the bed! Maybe you could up-grade when you are onboard?
We were not into the formal stuff and the best part for us was sitting at the back of the ship (astern, I think is the nautical term!)
watching the sun go down with a few drinks, feet up on the railings, chatting to good company and wonderful staff.
Think you will love Funchal - we had lunch on one of the boats on the seafront. (The Beatles Boat) (All interconnected by gang-planks)
I ordered sardines and the waiter went to the Market just to get them for me! The Fish and Flower Markets are fab too.
Know you will love it. Wishing you a very happy 30th. Lots of love Suzie x
You can get a single ticket and do the taboggan down, however, the toboggan will not bring you all the way back down to the bottom.
