the fiesta chain are a decent bunch of hotels, i think in playa den bossa theres the Don toni and fiesta club or something, you also have the fiesta sports world (sorry cant remember its proper name) in playa, loads of tennis, football, squash, archery and stuff.

as for the resort, there are plenty of shops and stuff, although the far end (towards the airport) is quieter.

Hi - I would recommend the Fiesta Hotel Tanit in Cala Gracio - been there several times. Cala Gracio is a good 20min walk into San Antonio although a taxi is cheap and also buses and water bus will take you. It's great for kids with kids club, mini disco. Activities throughout the day - darts, archery, water polo, mini golf, rifle shooting etc and the usual entertainment at night. It has been refurbished 2005 - great air con in the rooms, very clean hotel, food great a good family hotel.

Have a look at http://www.thomsonholidays.co.uk as they are the only company I've ever seen to go there.

Hope this helps - if you require any more info just ask.

Have a look at the hotel and resort reports for Puerto San Miguel (San Miguel Hotel and Beach Club) - it is an absolutely stunning place. We have been there 2 years running, many others have been going back for more years than us. We plan to return next year, it is the best place we have been to. The only thing you should bear in mind is that it is definitely NOT San Antonio, so the nightlife is centred on the hotel and the one disco in the resort. I cannot fault it, however! If you want to shop, there is a very good regular bus service 6 days a week to Ibiza town (30 mins away), also buses run to San Antonio twice a week and Santa Eulalia/Es Cana also twice a week. The fare is 235 euros per person single (they dont do returns). You can book through Thomsons and the prices are really pretty reasonable for what you get. Hope this helps!

I'm intrigued. If you "don't like to go off the resort too much" why are you looking at Ibiza (probably the most beautiful island in the med) for your holiday?

Please don't be offended by the question, it's out of professional interest. I have always been intrigued as to why people pick Ibiza but never actually go and see any of it. I meet people every year who have been coming to Santa Eulalia for anywhere between ten and twenty years and have only ever seen the airport and the town here. I have never understood what keeps bringing them back when there is a whole world out there.

Just be aware that the resorts shops, bars, cafes, resturaunts and other businesses are what make a resort and the very fact that some people choose to go AI will one day have a detrimental effect on the resorts and the island as well.Do you look forward to the day when all the shops and bars are boarded up and no other facilities are available due to AI hotels and people staying in their hotels for 2 weeks.
Reply
I have to disagree with you there, as going to and All Inclusive myself for 2 weeks,we still use bars, shops etc. Ok we may not use them as much as we would do Half Board or Self Catering, but as far as i could see they were never short of customers, so i think as long as people keep coming to Ibiza, we will never see these places being boarded up whether people stay in an All Inclusive hotel or not.

The shops were not short of customers as not everyone is AI yet.If you take AI to it's natural conclusion the majority - not all , sit in their hotels for 14 days and not spending in the resorts in shops that pay taxes that in turn get reinvested in the resorts.

Also I have never known as business give things away, don't you pay up front for these drinks ect when paying for the holiday.AI prices are dearer than half board prices?

I have to agree with Wayne on this one. I know a few business owners on Ibiza and many do indeed complain that the big AI companies are strangling the smaller businesses on the island. If the trend continues then the face of quite a few holiday resorts, not just Ibiza, could significantly change.

Apart from the fact that the tourists staying in AI spend significantly less in local bars, restaurants and shops than those on B&B and half board, the majority of AI hotels are foreign owned and consequently little or none of their profits are used to benefit Ibiza.

I agree that eventually AI will kill Ibiza if it is not kept in check, despite having more tourists on the island this year than 2005 spending is significantly down. The season here is very short and although takings are down the costs of running a business are increasing every year.

IMHO AI should be treated the same way as the South African Orange was during Apartheid, it may taste nice but is it ethically correct?
Reply
Ok ok, so maybe eventually it will kill Ibiza, but that's only if more and more All Inclusives become available. But at the moment, as far as i know anyway, the majority of hotels in Ibiza are Self Catering, Half Board and B&B, so for now i think Ibiza is safe.
