Help - Nerja

Hi! Nerja is quite flat, it`s a small place so there wouldn`t be that much walking anyway. Nerja is very beautiful and quiet place, I`m sure you would like it! I have been there twice myself.
Salobrena is also flat, quiet little village.

Can`t help you with accomodation, the b&b we stayed in had MANY stairs.

Hi AnnieK, Fuengirola is as flat as a pankacke, lol. We went in May, and it was mostly the "mature" clientel that were there, we're in our 50's and it suited us  . I can recommend the Hotel Yaramar, (Thomson Gold) we loved it, right on the beach front. There are plenty of reviews in the Costa del Sol section, have a browse through there and see if anything takes your fancy! Good luck with your search, Linda.

Thanks so much to you both for your replies!!

Damienna, that's great, I think Nerja and sounds perfect for them :D We are looking at Balcon de Europa, but most sites are saying it is unavailable, but we are holding out and waiting for the hotel to get back to us directly  The other hotel I looked at is the Perla Marina. Do you know of it?

Linda, many thanks, it sound great, but they want to go east of Malaga. But, I will tell them that Fuengirola is "flat as a pancake" and maybe they might get there yet

I know Balcon de Europa(hope you get it!!), haven`t heard of Perla Marina but i found the webpage and it looks good-it`s in the village as well-->easy access. Nerja really is a sweet charming village without too much of that touristcrap they sell everywhere. Nerja and Fuengirola are two very different places I can tell you that much:)
I think Nerja is something for the more "grown-up" crowd:)

We went to Nerja in March and stayed at the Perla Marina.
It was a lovely hotel and we looked out over the sea. The hotel is within 10-15 minutes walk from the Balcon.
Another hotel which is well liked is the Rui Monica.
Hope this is of some help.

know Balcon de Europa(hope you get it!!),
 I know, I'm having difficulty with availability, but fingers crossed!!

lincolnsue, can you tell me if the beach is sandy or pebble? Are there sun loungers available? What was the food like in the hotel? How far is it to the town centre, I don't think my Mum could manage anything more than about a 5 min walk. Is the area fairly flat? Sorry for all the questions

I'll have a look at the Rui Monica too. Thanks for the tip

The Balcon is flat and right in the centre. Lots of bars, restaurants etc and a great place to people watch. The nearest beach to the Balcon is down quite a steep slope though and it doesn't sound as if your Mum would manage it. The roads leading off the Balcon where many of the shops are, are hills.

The Monica may be a better bet as it may be easier for her to get onto a beach. The beaches are mainly sandy and most of the Nerja beaches have some sunbeds for hire, but I'm not very familiar with Torrecillo, which is the nearest to the Monica. There are also bars and restaurants within reach of the Monica, and some souvenier shops. It would probably be too far for her to walk from there to the Balcon.

For proximity for someone with walking difficulties, the Monica would probably be better than the Perla Marina which is just slightly further out.

Does your Mum intend to stay around the hotel area? What is she looking for from her holiday?

I'm wondering if Torre del Mar might be a better bet for her as it is flatter. It's not such a pretty town as Nerja but it is more Spanish. There are lots of bars and restaurants. In the evenings there is a wonderful atmosphere along the paseo with many Spanish families out for a stroll and during the summer there is an evening market on the beach. Prices are also much cheaper than in Nerja :)

I live pretty much midway between the two areas and Torre would be my first choice but then I'm not a tourist and don't know what your Mum's idea of a good holiday would be.

Many thanks for your reply kayley!! I appreciate it.

Unfortunately, the Balcon de Europa is booked for the first few days of their trip. Do you know of the Parador Hotel? Would this be suitable for her? She would be happy to sit by a nice pool, but they would like to be near the beach, for my Dad to go swimming in the sea, iykwim.

Is there a nice hotel is Torre del Mar that you could recommend?

Thanks so much for your help
Sorry, I meant to say that I haven't found any availability in the Monica, unfortunately

The Parador is a possibility. It's a different part of town and one I'm not too familiar with so I don't really know about access to the beach from there.

Having suggested Torre, I'm really struggling to find a nice hotel. I've just looked on the website of one I thought may be nice, Mainake and the pool looks horrid. I can try to have a drive around but it probably wouldn't be till next week and I appreciate you want to get something booked.

Another suggestion would be Torrox where there is a nice beach and lovely flat paseo. There is also a Rui hotel which has a nice pool. Great market on a Monday too. If they want to spend most of their time between the beach and the sea this could be worth considering. The hotel is right on the beach.

Hi kayley, thanks for all your help.

I've been stuggling with availability, and spoke to my parents, who have happily agreed on the Perla Marina  They will be happy to lounge around the pool/garden area, and Dad can alway pop down the beach if he wants a swim in the sea. The hotel have confirmed taxi's will be available if Mum can't manage the walk to the centre, so they are happy with that.

God, I'd love to be going myself. Is the rain ever going to stop

Thanks again, you've been so helpful

The beach near to the Perla Marina was not very good but within 3mins walk it was a lovely long beach which I believe was pebbly (we didnt go on as it was March)there were plenty of benches alongside.
There were sun loungers both round the pool and on a grassy area.
You asked about the food --- we only had breakfast and it was fine, but we did hear a few poor comments about the dinners but then you always find some people who are dissatisfied.
If your parents are staying around the hotel I would advise asking for a sea view room.
Other people have indicated that it may be too far for your Mum to walk to the centre but there were several nice bars within 5 mins of the hotel.
I hope they enjoy their holiday.

The Parador is beautiful!Fab views over the Burriana Beach.I think that the Parador has its own private lift down to the beach. The walk into town from there, either along Carrabeo (nearest to the sea)or Calle Huertos is reasonably flat.(I have been living on Calle Huertos for the past year!).Torrecillo beach, near the Monica and Perla Marina is also easily accessible from either hotel. Both are lovely hotels. The centre of Nerja is fine, out of the centre is quite hilly.Public transport is good though.
