We are off to Wales for 2 weeks in July- self catering cottage (near Neath) with the two kids aged 4 & 8.
We are travelling from Scotland and its our first visit to Wales.
We would like to take them to lots of interesting places but don't want to get ripped off on lots of entry fees etc.
We will have a car so we are able to get around easily.
Also any family friendly fun eating places to recommend ?
Any ideas?
Many thanks

There are loads of places to visit, and you can even travel to west Wales about an hour or two drive from where you are staying.
You'll have a fab time.
Any more info and help just ask.
Cardiff is just a short drive away, if you fancy a day in the city. (the bay is really nice, techniquest is good for the kids)
there are some beautiful histroic sites around the area (cardiff castle, castle Coch) as well as the museum of welsh life (St Fagans) which is just outside cardiff!
i spend several weeks a year around this area & love it ...
There's also Oakwood park if you wanted a trip to a theme park, has enough there to keep the kids entertained. There's so much to do you'll be spoilt for choice.
Big Pit, Brynmawr.
Swansea's new pool has opened ( the old one had good slides and waves not sure about new one)
The Gower and the Mumbles are a must!
My friend says Llansteffan is nice
Tenby and Saundersfoot ( Oakwood Theme park and others inc Folly Farm if you have younger children)
Also there is http://www.1940sswanseabay.co.uk if you're interested in the 2nd world war museum
another one about mumbles is http://www.mumbles.gov.uk
another good place is http://www.gowerheritagecentre.co.uk

There's a harvester on the M4/A465 junction which you'll probably pass depending on which way you get into Neath.
A McDonalds on the A465!!
There's a Brewsters with a fun factory play area in Morriston near to an Asda and lots more out of town stores.

Gnoll Park is in the centre of Neath and is a free park with 2 parks and a lake where you can feed the ducks.
Big Pit and St Fagans are a must, well worth aday out. Porthcawl for the beach and funfair. Barry Island.
one place that I thought was magical was the lily-pools at Stackpool or is it bosherston near Pembroke. There's a series of lakes full of lilies and fish with wooden footbridges crossing them. If you follow them, they lead to a fabulous beach squashed between cliffs. The only down side was the sound of the live firing from the army firing range somewhere close.
and drive to cardiff bay, plenty going on day + night-eg boat tris around the bay 3.00 return pp, teqniquest science musuem, bowling, cinema, often have french markets, and in evenings you can see a ashow at the newly built millenium centre.
st fagans is nice and now free entrance-see the history of welsh life-homes, work, and a farm there. take a picnic with you!!!!
for a nice drive, go to porthcawl follow the coastal road through ogmore to barry , then you can come back on the motorway!
lots to do! have a lovely time
