Of course I would say Nuweiba. But then I am biased beyond belief.

Seriously, if you are going to one of the larger hotels ( i.e. Dahab Hilton v Nuweiba Hilton ) you will not see much difference.

If you are thinking of one of the smaller hotels then Dahab is more quaint and fun in the evening, whilst Nuweiba has far superior beaches.

Nuweiba is definitely more central for all the excursions in the area, ( St Catherine, Coloured Canyon, White Canyon, Pharaohs Island, Aqaba & Petra, and even Cairo are all closer to Nuweiba than Dahab.

Thanks for replying Swiss. Can you recomend a good hotel in Nuweiba? Although the 4* and 5* properties look fantastic, the idea of eating there half board or all inc fill me with dread! I like to explore a bit and eat in local restaurants with local cuisine. Can I do this in Nuweiba?
The other thing is i'm really struggling for T/O's who go to this area.
The thought of going to Sharm which seems very touristy to me really puts me off.
Do you have any idea on a price for excursions to Aqaba and likely cost?
Thanks again,
Laurence

One hotel I can recommend is Swiss's hotel the Swisscare in Nuweiba, we will be returning for the third time next week after 6 nights in sharm. I havent eaten out in Nuweiba other than the Hilton or Swisscare but i'm sure Alvin can recommend some places. there are more places to eat out in Dahab I think.

Have you thought about booking independently? I'm not sure of your location but that's what I do now and it suits me better than through a tour operator as I can do a few nights here and a few nights there.

Have fun deciding!

Thanks for that Tigger, booking diy scares me a bit espically going to a country I've never visited before. Looking at brochures for a new destination in a country as vast as Egypt is a bit daunting, but I think i've narrowed it down to either Dahab or Nuweiba. I think it's a crying shame to go all thet way and eat in a hotel 24/7 and not have the local experience which is what i'd go to Egypt for.
I will check out the Swiss Hotel though. Thankyou for your suggestion.
Any other info on the resort will be much appreciated. I Egypt expensive at all?

Thank you kindly Tigger !

Arranging the trip yourselves is no big problem... I can always help on that. You could do like Tigger and spend time in Sharm and then in Nuweiba, or you could do Nuweiba for say 5 nights followed by maybe one night St Catherine, 2 nights Dahab ( maybe Nesima Hotel ), or possibly add in Taba for a night or two ( Tobya Hotel ). This way you see more and avoid the large international hotels thus giving you more personal freedom and choice. Tranfers are easy to arrange for you from here, the only problem is the flights - you would probably get a better deal flying to Sharm than Taba Airport.
