"how easy is it to buy salad/vegetables/meat" - not a problem at all, there are loads of small shops and a couple of good sized supermarkets (OK, coming from Aussie you won't think they are good sized - some of your supermarkets are the size of Comino !) - the fresh fruit and vegetables are wonderful - local meat also very good, esp chicken, pork and rabbit - what about fish ? what time of year will you be here, and I tell you what will be in season

Hi AA,

I think Gozomark will agree that there is absolutely no problem buying the fresh food you want. Maybe Mark could tell you the best places but I'm sure you'd be able to get whatever from shops/market in Victoria as well as other shops in the towns and villages,

Qala's nice - what month are you coming in ?

not totally sure yet, waiting for confirmation from those down under, but it's anytime between feb & june next year :)

in that case - in season

fresh gozo cheeses (made that day, like Ricotta)
plenty of fish - tuna towards the end
vegs - potatoes, salad stuff, cauliflowers

and local bread - goes great with the cheeses, tomatoes, capers, olive oil, gozo sea salt

you will find most things you can get in the UK - what you don't find is the supermarket own brands

any type of food you must have - ask and I'll let you know if its available, but I think you will be surprised how much we can get here (eg Japanese seaweed and wasabi, Thai curry paste, fresh lemongrass and ginger)

feb/march - could be cold and wet (but still better than UK !), but should be very green with lots of flowers
by April thats normally about it for rain for the rest of the summer

cheers :) I'm hoping it's more towards the summer though as I want to experience the warm seas :D

even in June, the sea temp is "only" 22-23C (16C in Feb) - reaches peak in Aug of 28C - to some 22-23C is cold, esp when air temp might be 30C, butthe summer peak in say,Cornwall, is 18-20C, so depends what you are used to !

Meat, fruit, veg, cheeses, drinks.........no problem.

Just try Arcadia in Victoria, just next to the school and McDonalds. During the school holidays, the yard serves as a free car park.

Happy scoffing!!
