Driver02
Thanks driver02, there is another one I have read about debit cards being cloned & how the different banks reacted. We've had a call from our bank this morning saying that hubby's card has been used in India to withdraw cash & wanted to know how long it will be before we get our money back. That link did help though, thanks again.
Thats the one Fiona, thank you so much. We've only lost £181 at the moment & another £96 transaction was declined so it could have been worse I suppose. I have to say, credit where credit is due, Lloyds TSB rung us this morning, so they had picked up on it pretty quick. The thing is, it's happened before to others, as I work in our local shop I've had customers telling me about it, so we pretty much know where the card was cloned. We have informed the local police so maybe they can catch up with the theiving*******. I will report back when I have some more news. Thanks again for all your help.
I have to say that I have found Lloyds to be very good as well. They have phoned me within half an hour a few times if they think there has been a suspect transaction. They blocked my card a few weeks ago when I was trying to make 3 lots of flight bookings for internal flights in India. Also in Bali a couple of years ago I was a spending spree one morning and they blocked my card then. It was unblocked easily enough by me by contacting them and providing them with the security responses I set up. Its quite reassuring really.
As I say, I have to give them credit, these transactions were made this morning in India, so they were on the ball as far as thats concerned. Hence the withdrawal does not show on our online banking statement. I'm just wondering how long it will take for them to replace the money. Hubby's card has been cancelled & a new one is to be sent out. The only problem is that we go away to Benidorm this thursday so his card won't be here before then, although it is a joint account so I will have mine. Well, thats £181 we won't have as holiday spends Also, just to add, reading through that link somebody said their card was cloned from a petrol station - I'm 100% positive that was where ours was done. Our's is only up the road, gggrrr I would love to go & kick someone's ass!!!!!
Its horrible when this happens. Happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately the banks f**** department contacted me to ask if I had topped up a vodaphone account 4 days running at 100 pounds a time?
I have 5 cards but the b****** had only managed to get the numbers of 2, thank God. They put another 200 quid on the second card.
How does this happen? I shred everything, never let the cards out of my possession and have no records of my pin numbers anywhere.
I have asked to be told how this happened but no-one is saying anything.
Hope you get it sorted.
I got an Asda credit card in November as you get 2p off a litre of petrol or diesel every time you use it at Asda. I paid for three lots of car insurance on the same night in February, two on the internet and one by phone. I got a call from Asda credit card on my mobile next morning asking if I had made these transactions which I thought was pretty good.

I do not know any body got my number either it was Morgan Stanley who got in touch with me to see if I had booked flights in Italy or Train tickets in Italy with my card but my card was here in Northere Ireland. I had stayed in Prague the week before and I left my cards in the safe when out of the room and this is the only place that the card were left out of my sight but we know that the cleaners had excess to the safes but we could not prove this is where it happened.
With a debit they are spending money you already have in your bank account, do different regulations apply? After the cloneing incidents on my credit cards 2 weeks ago. I am now worried about keeping more money in my bank account that I need to to cover regular bills in case someone gets hold of my debit card details as well.
They stopped the card immediately, after carrying out some checks on the account etc., they eventually decided to reimburse me, with a warning that if they discovered I actually had spent the money I would have to pay them back.
Not much chance of that, given I was in Manchester when the money was spent in London
To be honest, the whole experience left me with a nasty taste in my mouth, and I was disappointed by the way the bank I had been with for nearly forty years had treated me.

I am hoping, as it was Lloyds that picked this up immediately that I won't have to fill out forms etc. I would have known probably tomorrow as I check all our banks every single day just to check that no unauthorized money has gone. As it won't appear on our statement until tomorrow at the earliest, how long will we have to wait to get it back!!
Given, that it was them that picked it up, you may be ok.
Deb.
It was Nat West that picked mine up due to the person using the wrong expiry date for my card, but they still sent me forms to fill in. They were very simple though. You are signing to say that you didn't spend the money, and it lists the f****** transactions. You sign to give them permission to investigate the fraud.
It seemed odd that they needed my permission to investigate the fraud. I would obviously want it investigated.
I also asked if they could tell me how it happened so I could better protect myself from it happening again in the future, but so far they haven't told me
Oh well, if we have forms sent then we will obviously fill them in & send them back. The unfortunate thing is that we go away this thusday till monday, so there will be a delay in getting our reimbursement which is annoying as it is no fault of ours!! Also hubby's card won't be here before we go away either. Ggrr, this so so annoying.
It will also be a good idea to get a copy of your credit report to make sure everything is correctly record. Thats how I found out a fraudster had taken out 6 accounts using wrong dob and wrong spelling of surname. Took a lot of sorting out but did all get written off in the end.

I also asked if they could tell me how it happened so I could better protect myself from it happening again in the future, but so far they haven't told me
I did the same - still waiting for an explanation
