Stayed there in march.There is a large apartment block being built opposite the HBR but the work may well be finished by December.You will find my report in the hotels section.Candolim in general is experiencing rapid expansion and there is building everywhere.It did not really bother us and if you get a room at the back of the hotel you will not have a problem.For more specific opinions read my report.Feel free to PM me for further info but this forum is a mine of excellent info.

Hi every one, my friend is booked into the Highland Beach, for 2 weeks in December, she has received a letter, from the travel agent, saying that there is building work going on there, and if she wants to go elsewhere, she can pay the extra, or have a refund, well this building work has been going on for the past 3 years, so why is it any different this year? because from what I have seen it certainly dosen't cause any difficulties.
Or does any one know any different?

we are going to the HBR this Sunday and have received a reply from somebody there at the moment they say if you can ask to be at the back of the hotel you cant hear anything , we emailed hotel in advance to request this

As said earlier the building work has been going on for quite some time, not been there since April but then the new build was well away from the existing hotel and to be honest most of the heavy work was nearing completion, my experience is that the building work doesn't tend to be noisy or particularly messy. I'm there next week and reports from friends on the ground is that there will not be a problem, but if concerned go for a room in the original part of the complex.

We go to the Highlands on 30th December and normally stay at the Magnum - so a little worried about the building work. Can you post a note when you get back to put our minds at rest. Cheers

there is building work going on we have been here since 29th september and it will not bother you at all ,most of the large diggers have gone and it is mainly inside work on the new blocks being completed ie electrics,painting etc.

Goingoingoa - there's another phase due for completion end 2007 so it's there for a while yet. It's moving further away from the main complex so shouldn't be a problem for most people.

Flighing out on 4th Dec - Highland Beach. Just been informed by 1st Choice that there is building work goin on opposite the hotel. Does anyone know how much work is going on?
Will be with 20 month old daughter so dont want to stay if the whole place will be covered in dust and the pool turning to cement!!

At HB at the moment, the building work is at a distance from the hotel, there is less dust and noise here than other parts of Candolim, so I wouldn't think that anyone needs to be concerned over the building work.

Yet again we have received a letter from First Choice informing us that building work is taking place opposite Highland Beach. This happened to us last year but we went along with an open mind regarding noise. It was actually ok as Goan building is basically done by hand, no great noisy machines. Unfortunately when checking in the hotel , we noticed our room number had been crossed out and changed and sure enough the room we were taken to was straight opposite the building site. We booked to go back this year as the apartments were nearly completed. Looks like they are now building more right next to the road.

What has annoyed me is that First Choice make out its just appeared from nowhere when they must have known all along. I will be writing to First Choice to let them know my feelings. Has anyone been lately to let me know what its like this year?

We returned yesturday from the Highland Beach & yes there is still building work going on but it did not affect us at all..didn't hear any noise or really see much of the buliding work, just the odd lorry..Our room was at the back of hotel room no: 2205 which was a lovely room overlooking the pool & the pool areas on all three pools was lovely..I would say to anyone to go as it should not affect you at all..Just really sad to be home now as had a fantastic time!!

Thanks to Johnny G and Becky we are travelling on 30th December and were a bit worried about the work - first time to Highland although we knew of the work from last year. Puts mind at rest cheers!

Why are the travel agents doing this, there has been building work going on for at least the last 3 years, this isn't something that they have just been made aware of, Thompsons and Thomas Cook are doing exactly the same thing, I wonder what is really going on.
