Hi we are going to ST Nicholas park on the 20th Sept for 2 weeks, I have emailed the hotel to find their address so I can find the location on Google Earth, but they cannot give me a road name, and I'm not sure they understood what I meant. Can anyone help at all?
I would also like to know should it be warm enough for the pool?
How steep and long this hill actually is that I keep reading about with dread.
When the resort starts closing down? We went to Zante a couple of years ago around the same time and everything was starting to close. Do the restaurants stay open late?
Where would be a good place to hire a car, and is it easy to navigate around Turkey.
Also has anyone very got the train to Istanbul from this area? Is it ok? and how much was it?
If st nicholas park is where i think it is on the hill going down to Olu Deniz, it maybe half a mile long and yes it does get steep in places.
The pool should still be warm, however first contact with the water will seem to be cold, as with all pools, but once you are in it's fine.
The restaurants and bars will stay open more or less as long as there are people in them, especially in Hisaronu, which is just up the road.
You can hire a car most anywhere, but shop around for the best price etc. make sure you have the correct insurance which covers glass and tyres, because if you don't and get a smashed windscreen or a tyre go out on you this can work out expensive, ( you will have to pay for either ) make sure you inspect the car thoroughly for damage before accepting it, and make sure any damage is made a note of on your hire agreement.
Fethiye area is relativley easy to negotiate and once you get out in the country not many cars to worry about, be careful in the towns though, crazy drivers, basically if there is a gap the first one there gets it, no road sense to speak of, you will get drivers just pulling out in front of you, but if you are aware of everything that is going on in front, at the side and to the rear of you, you should be alright, just drive defencively.
No trains to Istanbul. full stop. beautifull place to go to, only ways to get there is to either drive, 500 miles, about 9 hrs or so, or get the autogar from Fethiye about 10 or 11 hrs, cost, can't quite remember, seem to think when I did it, it was about £ 34 return.
another way is an internal flight from Dalaman. possibly about £ 70 return, if you go I sugest that you make it for at least 4 days, including travelling.
Hope this has helped in some way, B.T.W. the roads don't have name in Turkey, they are known as sokak, i.e sokak 32, sokak 15, etc, etc. the road to Olu Deniz maybe sokak 57, I don't know.
Cheers Kev
hiring a car is easy there are alot of different rules which must be held to
roads are pretty good and always drive with money and your passport
