Hi Louise
I know Ixia very well as i worked and lived there for a while so i'll give you a bit of an idea and anything specific just private message me.
Ixia is on the west coast of the island which is the breezier side. The breeze of course is very welcome in the high summer months but it does mean the sea is a bit rougher and the beaches quite pebbly. That said beaches are clean and some stretches in Ixia have a blue flag.
Ixia is very close to Rhodes Town so great for exploring the city and a bus or taxi will cost you very little. Ixia itself is a purpose built resort and some of the older hotels give it a bit of a dated look but plenty of facilities - restaurants, bars and tourist shops in abundance.
It's only a short ride from the airport and so does suffer a little from aircraft noise but not bad at all. You'll hear the planes if you're on the beach but not deafeningly loud by any stretch of the imagination. The Amathus is across the road from the beach so you'll hear very little aircraft noise there.
It's certainly not the most picturesque or historic resort but is a very good base if you want tourist amenities at hand and like to get out and about a bit.
