I would leave booking accomodation until I got there

I am concerned there are now a number of accommodation owners agreeing a price and then changing theri minds. With an exchange rate of 70 to £1 around £19 a night without a pool, bar etc sounds expensive during March

FTV, leave it until you get here, Goa is dead this season and lots of new accoms have sprung up recently so most of them are empty (old and new). It seems that they are trying to squeeze as much out of individuals as possible to offset the losses of a poor season. You will not have trouble finding somewhere decent in March, maybe by then the penny will have dropped and the greedy room owners will start to panic as the season nears it's end. You'll be able to barter them down to a reasonable rate - I'm pretty sure of that!

PS the following is a link to one of the newest places that has sprung up in Baga - situated on snake alley (the road opposite coffe day)

Like the others, I'd definitely wait till you get there. You hand pick the location and do a deal face to face.

Thanks for the replies, yes your probably right, it is just a case of assuring Mrs FTV who is convinced that I am turning back to my backpacking days of old when you could get a room for a pound a night  This place was the Emmanuel apts which you got the number for me, yes it took this long for them to reply :? I will probably do as I said and book one nights hotel then look around at a few places that I have in mind and agree a rate in person.

We went very last minute last Feb with nowhere to stay, much against SWMBO 's wishes and we got sorted out very quickly. There are loads of good rooms and deals to be done.

Result, just had an e-mail back accepting 1000 rps a night for the 3 weeks, quite happy with that to be honest, at least I know the beds are good as I had a good bounce on them when I had a look last year  Apparently the new restaurant is called Soups and Sizzlers, anybody tried it ? it is where Eclipse bar is on the Baga/Calangute Rd.

Having never done a DIY job before, what do I need to take with me when I check in at the airport as proof of accommodation ?

FTV - we went DIY in Jan last year, when we checked in at manchester at the MyTravel desk no questions were asked about accomodation.
I have seen some flights for this year on travelrepublic and that says their flight only has Park Avenue Hotel annex as the accomodation for the first night, but you arent actually booked into Park avenue
It depends which airline your travelling with, MyTravel seem to be ok.

FTV - I think it's Monarch that want proof of accommodation, I know they insisted on this a couple of years ago when you checked in at Manchester, I don't think any other airline wanted it.
