Arrived on Saturday for a quick week to celebrate my OH's 70th birthday - He had the opportunity to go anywhere he wanted and in the end he decided on Benidorm- his choice, so here we are.
He said he'd enjoyed his birthday, but I don't think he can remember too much about it after 11pm
Had a good flight from Donny at 6-45 am and only four drop-offs, so we were in the hotel in time for lunch, and after lunch we unpacked and went to bed because the heavens opened and it peed it down with rain.
On Sunday we didn't do much, except have a little walk on the promenade and have a nosey around a few shops.
Monday was sunny but with a cool breeze and out of the sun you needed a light jacket on, so we walked to the old town and onto Poniente beach and back.
Today has been a lovely sunny warm day, so this morning after breakfast we walked to the Cross and back, and we've spent most of the day in the mountains - it nearly 'killed' us both walking to the cross, so, I think that will be the last time we walk up there - there's quite a bit of construction taken place with private villas en route since we last walked up there.
We are both shattered tonight- I'm obviously playing on my tablet/ipad type thingy and picking up a wi-fi signal is saving me a fortune feeding euros into the hotel's computer - Dave is reading a book next to me and struggling to keep awake at 10pm Spanish time.
Bye for now

No, I mean Doncaster Robin Hood Airport - known as and always will be by us locals - simply as Donny

Hiya Sanji glad the weather is good, will be near there myself in a month Benalmadena xx
David
Hope you carry on enjoying yourselves and glad your OH enjoyed his big 70.
Hope you enjoy the remainder of your holiday Sanji and a belated Happy Birthday to Dave. Are you staying in your usual hotel? Leave some sun for us as we'll be there (in the Flamingo Oasis) in a few weeks. I heard they've had a bug in there hope we don't get it again this year we're taking our own hand stuff as you can't be too careful.
Hiya shirley , good to hear from you . For a minute there I thought you had left Dave pacing up and down outside an internet cafe but you have gone all upmarket on us with your ipad. .
Como esta? Glad you're having a good time out in Benidorm. Hopefully you'll get lots more sunshine for the rest of your stay so you can enjoy filming the sights I hope your hubby's enjoying his birthday treat.
Speak soon
Pleased to hear you are enjoying yourselves in Benidorm.
When you went up to the Cross you will have passed by that building which I asked you about, it is finished now and is Apartments.
We went to Beni in March and went to look at the Tiempo building, it stands out very prominently now.
I have followed its progress on the Skyscraper site which you recommended.
Enjoy the rest of your stay
Sue
hi sanji....sounds like your both having a nice old chill out...hope the sun keeps shining and one for the other half ...tweetie
We went to Beni in March and went to look at the Tiempo building
I caught sight of it as we approached Benidorm, but I didn't have the camera or camcorder handy and I was surprised how they'd progressed, I'm hoping to catch it on video as we leave for the Airport on Saturday - it was at a stand still for months with one of the towers lagging way behind the other one , and no work being carried out on the site, but now both towers are of equal height and the globe like structure is in place which links the two towers and creates the letter M - for Madrid and a tribute to the victims of the Madrid bombings.
The other hotel/torre on the Avda Mediterraneo which caused so much disruption with the piledriver to those staying in the hotels Ocas/Pelicanos a few years ago, it looks like it's been abandoned for many years or for good, or the builder has gone bust - the last time I looked it said the project was 'on hold' - but now all the signs/billboards and sales office have gone, and now what was going to be the underground carpark for the hotel/casino, it is now a public underground carpark. I've took some pictures to post when we get back.
Had quite a 'shock' to find one of our favourite cafes in Benidorm- the Vina del Mar-is no longer. We've been going in there for coffee since we've been visiting Benidorm and it was very popular with the Spanish, especially the workers in the nearby hotels taking their breaks in there.
Today has been a lovely day and whilst I'm not going to quote any temperature figures, it's been warm
/hot enough to walk about in shorts and a strappy top - and get sunburnt.
We walked to the old town, passed the town hall and right through the park to the bullring because I want to replace some of my older videos, which were captured on my old tape camcorder and they've lost the quality now through being moved around and compressed too many times.
Dave has decided to toddle off into the TV room to watch the football for an hour, so, I thought I'd waffle on in here.

I thought it looked like a UFO joining the 2 towers
Excellent news that the tablet is doing it's job and was definitely money well spent
Take care and keep enjoying the

Hi Shirley, glad you're having a good time in Benidorm, a belated Happy Birthday to Dave and hope the weather stays good for you.....
what it should look like when done
A glorious day here (weather wise) - the plan was to go to Albir and walk to Altea, but it didn't materalise and we spent most of this morning sat in a bar on the promenade soaking up the sun and people watching--- watching a large group of fitness fanatics doing all those strenuous exercises on the beach......as if. lol
I'd applied some suncream before we went out this morning, but still managed to get rather red on the chest area and my shoulders.
The last day tomorrow and apart from a trip to the tabacas in the morning, I don't know what the plans are for the rest of the day. This week has just flown by so quickly and we have an early start back to Alicante airport on Saturday morning, but should be back in Donny for 1-30pm and with a bit of luck home before 3pm.
That reminds me- Alicante terminal , just what is O'Leary's problem? He's taking the Michael because my Thomson flight parked up well away from the terminal and we were bussed - two sets of steps waiting more or less before the plane had come to a complete standstill- and a bus waiting at the bottom of the steps.
When we were driven towards the terminal entrance and I saw with my own eyes the lay- out and the telescopic air bridges with the other planes - it's just confirmed my opinion that Alicante are right and O'Leary is wrong....there is no space to park up Mickey's planes where he would like to park them, and then have paxs finding the terminal entrance and dodging the buses taking people like me to the terminal.

Safe trip home Shirley
