It certainly would put a damper on things and it's something I'm always wary of, (particularly in Heathrow in the past). So far I've been lucky (hope that doesn't put the mockers on me) but I've always put jewellery etc. into my hand luggage as a precaution. Incidentally did the report say whether it was Monastir or Tunis?
A bit silly really putting what I assume is quality jewellery into the hold luggage. If it is worth a lot I'm not sure you would get the insurance back to cover the value of the items.
can you put aerosol sprays in the hold luggage?
Yes, up to a maximum of 2kgs I think.
thanks for the info
hi weve got a private appartment this year and was wondering if it was ok to take bacon cheese pate etc in the luggage
nuttynet .... there are no security restrictions on taking solid foodstuffs in luggage. However, for any import/export restrictions on taking foodstuffs abroad, you would be best consulting the
the airport where the luggage was tampered with was monastir
We are flying with thomas cook on august 3rd manchester-malaga we have paid extra pp for 5 extra kg
we now have 20 kgs each for our cases and 5 kgs for hand luggage got our tickets last friday and it does state that in total 25 kgs each, but what if I have only a little handbag with hardley anything in it, and my case is over by 2-3 kgs can that be in my allowance cos in total you have 25 kgs! last year I was over by 4 kgs there and back and they didnt charge me or say anything, and I had 20 kgs allowance and 5 kgs for hold
Anyone know anything on this....
This is more of a Thomas Cook question than one for here. Your HOLD allowance is 20kg, and hand luggage allowance is 5kg, ie 25kg total. Unlike Thomsonfly who offer a system you mention, TCX don't. If you exceed your 20kg hold allowance, you are liable to excess baggage charges.

We travelled on the 23rd June 2008 from Luton to Sharm el Sheikh - Egypt.
On check in, we had 5 suitcases and hand luggage.
One case was 22.5kg, the rest were well under. The least weight was 10kg.
Our allowance was 20kg and 5 kg in Hold.
We were told to pay £22.50p for the bag that was over weight.
We asked to pop the excess in another suitcase (the 10kg) one.
The woman refused saying that we couldnt do this - and that thomson do not do this any more. Even though in the next thomson line, they were doing just that !!
Our hand luggage total was 4.5kg for 3 bags.
She told us to go and pay the excess, when we arrived we argued the point, and the clerk told us we were in the right, but the young girl (around 20) was causing us a fuss, so we caused one back We paid the excess as by this time, we only had an hour to get through to departures and board.
When we got back to the young girl to get our boarding cards, we argued again and told her what the customer relations said. She said if we keep on argueing then the price will be more
We were all furious!
I am waiting for a response in view also of getting the £22.50p back.
These agents are all on commission and I think you came up against someone who blatently doesn't know the meaning of customer service!
I can understand when someone packs 20KG extra that they are charged but in your case you shouldn't of been!!
It wouldn't surprise me if i do not get a response, but we'll see
Hi can you take things like bacon cheese mayo and tins tuna in the case that will be checked in. Where could I find any information on this. Flying with Ryanair and it dosen't say I can't on their website so can I presume I can ?
Foodtsuffs are generally okay in hold luggage as far as the airline is concerned, michelle. But it's always worth checking out any food import restrictions for the country you are visiting.
Hi thanks for the super quick reply. We are flying to Spain
I don't usually bother taking any toiletries in my hand luggage when it's only a short flight but I am flying to Las Vegas on Sunday and it's a 10 hour flight so I wanted to take some deodorant as well as a bit of makeup. Can anyone update me on the latest guidlines please regarding this. i.e. what sizes are you allowed and how many items. Also, what type of bag can I buy pror to flying, does it have to be a zipper bag or can you use the ones with a flap on.
Thank you
Sue
