Weren't sure where to post this but as I plan to go to Ibiza next year-here will do!
In 2003 I went to Ibiza on 31st May for 2 weeks, it fell just after spring bank but going Spring bank time meant ridiculous prices.
Even though I gave the Primary school a letter the previous September (2002)requesting the time off for my 4 children and it was accepted, I then got a not so nice letter from the head!!
In 2004 I went to Ibiza 27th September.
I put my holiday request into school on last day of term (July 2004)even though the hol had been booked for a year.
This was so I wouldn't feel as guilty for as long when I knew the Head would get back to me only a few week before my holiday in the new term!
This letter was even worse, and considering that 3 out of my 4 kids had got 100% attendance (the other one didn't due to an operation!) that whole school year Sept 2003-July 2004 I thought this was awful.
I have never taken them out of school during Mock tests or Sats either!
Last year I was a very good girl and took them to Ibiza in the school holidays - August 2005.
A grand more I might add.....thats my spending money!!!
Not going this year, but plan to go next year.
I am going to sod them all and go in June.
I may aswell have the extra grand to exchange for Euros!
As I have to pay for all my kids as adults its a rip off anyway!
(but cheaper than paying room supplements!)
I will have 2 of my kids at Secondary School next year so I will have 2 schools to deal with I suppose.
So...what are peoples views on this?
Am I a bad mum?
Will school look down on me?
Am I tight?
Am I being sensible with my money?
All views from all people greatly needed!
Teachers and Heads too!!

We simply cannot afford to go in school holidays as the price was around 800 pounds more and that is our spending money.
My son never misses school only when we go away, there is talk of being fined 50 pounds for taking them out of school, i would rather pay that than 800 pounds for a holiday just because it is in the school holidays.
Prices are inflated in the school holiday, not everyone can have time off work so i dont see why we shouldnt take them out of school, people will probably disagree with me but this is my opinion
I am fortunate enough in believing that my childrens education does not suffer if they have two weeks off!
My youngest son missed a school trip as we went on holiday.
He was gutted....I said would you rather be at the other side of Bradford walking round a muddy river bank or jumping in and out of a pool all day.
He chose the pool! He can go to a muddy river in Bradford every week if he likes!
By the way...our school make you fill a form in with dates etc and reason for being off, ( I will quite plainly put 'HOLIDAY' next time)
with a space at the bottom for the Head to reply to you!!

Regarding this, I'm pretty sure that I heard somewhere that the government were going to put pressure on the holiday companies to stop charging high prices during school holidays.Don't know if anybody can confirm this?
