Flew out at Sunday 9am 30th August 05.50 arrived at Monastir at 8.40am make sure you fill in your visa before you get to passport control as it is a lot easier, changed some money before we got our transfer with Med Hotels which I would not do again not as straight forward as stated anyway we finally got to the Royal Beach Hotel first impressions excellent had room 230,lovely view rooms are basic but clean staff friendly and obliging we were half board but were not allowed a drink with our evening meal we had to buy one,and the meals were quite good my wife enjoyed every one of them I was ill for a number of days but nothing to do with the food too much sun and I had the misfortune of trying Bhouka which upset my stomach, beaches are beautiful and very clean walked into Sousse were hassled all the way by shopkeepers but a polite no sufficed nice place the Medina looks great just never went in,we went into Monastir one day got the local bus and then the metro only cost 5 Dinar for both of us got some lovely photo's of Bourgiba Mausoleum really nice place well worth a visit we were planning on going on more trips but it was too hot did get the Wally Trolly to PEK wasn't impressed but were told it was better at night when the fountain was all lit up so we came back a week later by taxi only 4 dinar and it is worth a visit lovely when it lights up to the music and they have amusement rides an arcade with all sorts of game machines the water park and a zoo if you can call it that there are a couple of Camels a couple of Kiwi's and a couple of Ostriches plus quite a few variety's of birds we came back on the TukTuk which is an experience.we also tried the Louage but had no intention of using the Horse and Carriages the horses looked in a terrible state never once saw one being fed,we started going to the Hotel Marabout next door after a couple of nights lovely hotel and they did have some entertainment, which repeats every week,we found the few bars they have there Legends The Rose and Crown and the Saloon I can give direction if anyone wants them, the Saloon we went twice the first time we were charged 8 dinar the second time they charged us 10 dinar I know its not a lot but didn't want to see what they would charge the third time, first time I have ever come across the prices in hotels being cheaper than in the bars, all in all Tunisia is a beautiful place if you are just interested in a beach holiday we spent a lot of time on the beach lovely water and warm,as the nightlife is non existant the selection of beers was limited to the local beer Celtia Heineken Becks Lowernbrau and Golden Brau shorts were very expensive and the measures were very small we drink Bacardi the cheapest we found was 5 dinar the dearest 7.5 dinar Whisk'y a lot dearer an example of the dearest Jack Daniels was 12 dinar a shot,a lot of people were complaining about having to pay 2 dinar for a sunbed even at your hotel as well as on the beach don't know if this was only the beach front hotels or wether it is all of them, and it is not true you get the same exchange rate everywhere our hotel was only giving 202.5 dinar to the pound but at the Marabout they had an exchange rate board and the rate was 218.5 which we got I asked in our hotel a couple of days later and it was the same but the Marabout had 214.5 which we got so I would check around,we did find a couple of supermarkets that sold alcohol but the areas were sealed off and wouldn't serve us any,on the Wednesday before we came home we had a thunderstorm and torrential downpour overnight the next time we went down to the beach it was covered in rubbish I can only imagine the tunisians use the water run off gully's as rubbish tips it would be the only thing that would explain it,the weather went cooler after that right until we came home, one thing we did notice is that the shops at the airport are cheaper than those in the resorts if anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them if I can.
P.S. I f anyone offers you anything for free just keep saying no no no there is nothing for free in Tunisia
