Helen, you can use a debit card to pay for purchases abroad the same way you can in the UK. The difference is that the money will come out of your account almost immediately whereas you will have up to 56 days interest free with the credit card, or more in your case.

The other difference is that the N/W card will give you say €1.26 against a probably €1.22 with the Tesco card.
