Hi Jaime \o
I have never been to Tunisia but we are going in 12 weeks time to Yasmine Hammamet staying in Yasmine beach hotal/apartments.
I will give you some information when i get back. Im hoping this is going to be the holiday of a lifetime ( so to speak) as its cost us a great deal of money. :)

Hiya went to tunisia with my wife and then 3 yr old son in 2006, loved the hotel (sahara beach hotel) skanes but didn't much like the country. its nice to say weve been and tried it but wouldn't rush back unless we stayed in our resort.
sousse and monastir are nice but there's only so many times you can visit the same place in 2 weeks. 1 week would have been better.we chose tunisia because our complex in kos had'nt been built in time and wish we'd gone elsewhere.
saying that the hotel was spotless and well cared for.food was lovely etc and entertainment was good
the country itself is a scruffy looking poor desert community with half built houses everywhere (a bit like spain really)
there are some nice places to visit such as Tunis the capital if only it was nearer.
The market area in sousse was bigger and better than monastir but you still don't feel safe unlike turkey where they have a similar way of life but much more friendlier and safer.
we went in june and it was far too hot. people were fighting for shaded areas in the afternoon as it was just too hot to be in the sun - we usually had a siesta in our room.
like i said the hotel and staff was fantastic but the rest of the country let it down.
this is of course only my opinion and others may differ but many people ive spoken to tend to agree.
with a 4 year old i'd choose turkey any day over tunisia :)

I agree about Tunisia being rather too hot in June but in October it is usually lovely. I go out twice a year and absolutely love the place, always feeling completely safe and at ease. Of course you do get some hassle from people trying to sell you things but it's never been a problem - there are a some useful language tips on here which should help you. The people love children and most of the hotels have an 'animation' (entertainment) team who make a particular fuss of them. There is plenty to do and transport is cheap, though if you have a young child you will probably find the wonderful beaches are enough to keep you occupied. The sea is safe and doesn't suddenly get deep so they can paddle easily. There is lots of information on here but if you have any specific questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Like Aslemma, I've never felt unsafe in Tunisia, even though I usually travel alone. I feel far more anxious on a Saturday night in the city closest to my home than I've ever felt in Tunisia - rowdy drunken youths in large groups make me feel unsafe as a woman on my own, market traders trying to sell me something don't.

Aslemma is far more likely than me to know the truth of the matter but I was told that the reason why there are so many apparently 'half-built' houses in Tunisia is because the tax on new building constructions only becomes payable on completion! It's hence in a houseowners interest to never quite finish off that new house and the reality is that the majority of those 'half-built' houses are fully functioning family homes with all the things you'd expect to find inside them - including a family living there! - and that all that's really missing is the external cosmetic treatment that would render them (literally!) complete.
