Hi guys, my boyfriend and I have just returned (yesterday morning boo hoo!!) from 2 glorious weeks in Goa, yes its different but it still has the same charm its always had. However I must admit we did do our best to avoid Baga as much as possible because it was a bit too busy we did manage to spend a few lovely mornings at the Big Banana on Calungute Beach (hi Uncle, David and the boys xx) the sellers are a bit more persistant than in previous years but Uncle soon sorted those out for us receiving a fair few curses along the way. Our hotel, the Riverside Regency (otherside of Baga bridge) was ok had a lovely pool and this time of the year it was really needed. The rooms were lovely and spacious and so long as you reminded the boys a few times the rooms were cleaned on a fairly regular basis, shame they just turned the sheets over instead of changing them for clean one but hey it gave us a laugh one day when we realised. The restaurant wasnt too great but we worked that out quite soon so we were ok our only criticism was that even if we were all sitting chatting in the bar it was closed at 10.30 - 11.00 none of us were intending to stay sitting there all night but we did feel like we were being made to go to bed early quite a lot !! There was always a mad rush to get a drink just before they put the boards up. We were also not allowed to give the boys any of the stuff from our rooms when we left all of this had to be taken to the managers wife, even down to the boys rooting through our discarded shower gels that I had thrown in the bin that had nothing i them at all.
We spent some lovely days exploring Morjim beach bliss no one on it for miles, Arambol Beach (sweet lakes) was lovely too but beginning to get a few too many sellers. I spent some happy days buying loads of gifts and bits for myself you know how it is.
We ate out every night and didnt really have a bad meal once, The Plantain Leaf never fails to deliver and I thank them wholeheartedly for filling my cool bag with samosa's for my freezer. Cant wait to get a few of those cooked up for my boyfriend when he's feeling a bit 'Goa-sick'.
Kim Faa was lovely the waiter even advised us that maybe crispy aromatic duck, 3 dishes and rice might be a bit much for 2 of us.
Now to my favourite restaurant Sublime, what a place lovely food, polite happy, helpful waiters and lovely proprieters. Chris the chef is a master and his Red snapper on a bed of asparagus will remain etched on my memory for a long time. We ate there 5 times and never once had any reason to complain and it must have brought out my boyfriends romantic side as he decided to propose to me after our 4th meal in there !!
We took some friends along on our last night and they were equally impressed.
The caramelised onion and prawn tart and the open lasagne was my boyfriends favourite (sorry havent quite got used to calling him my fiancee yet !!) and I'm sorry but I'm hard pressed to decide between the stuffed fillet of beef with honey roasted carrots and mashed potato and the red snapper dish but I can honestly say we only ever managed to make dessert once and that was when I forfeited my starter to sample the sorbets and yes you guessed it I loved that too !!
Cant wait for December to sample some more of Chris's delights !!
All in all we had a lovely time, we will be back in December as my fiancee is now a Goa convert but I'll be truthful when I say I'm not sure for how many years we will return to Baga and Calungute its just getting a bit much with loutish behaviour and people who only seem to go for the cheap booze and if the rumour about 18-30's is true then its all over !! Dont get me wrong I like a cheap drink with the rest of them but after seeing a lad from our hotel coming back one morning, after being missing all night, looking like the elephant man because he had been beaten up outside mambos by 4 US marines really wasnt something I ever expected to see or hear about.
But anyway loved it loved it loved it and miss it badly !! Only 33 more weeks to go !! ha ha
Really dissapointed now after reading your review Tash!
We asked taxi driver to take us there , never heard of it he said.
Got dropped off at brittos and walked about for ages looking for it, gave up, ended up in Infantaria in Calangute.........lovely chocolate brownie and ice cream!
Rach: Sublime is just on the left before you go over the bridge at Baga River.
Rach Sublime is difficult to find but being at Brittos you were so close !! If you had gone over the football pitch it was right in front of you just before you go over the bridge. Next to the Riverside Regency Hotel and the Hibiscus Restaurant
Congrats on your engagement.
By the way it's the riverside not the regency (that's the otherside of the river) it's next too I would hate for anyone to go to the wrong place, we stayed at the regency this year can't wait to go back next year now!!!

Dont get me wrong Donna we ate Indian every day lunch was the Plaintain Leaf or down the beach shack but for people who enjoy good food at cheap prices the Sublime is the place to go, not everyone likes the Indian food do they or else the chinese, thai and english places wouldnt do too well. We also stayed at the Riverside Regency on the other side of the river was just an oversite on my part but seeing as both are called the Riverside and Sublime has a sign outside and I said it was next to the Hibiscus I didnt think it would be too much of a problem.
Please don't think I was having a dig I agree the food is fantastic there, just didn't want to confuse people with where it is (sorry ).
Sorry if I upset you didn't mean to.
