We were there three weeks ago and crossed over using the new temporary bridge which is the beach side of the old one. The work to construct the new one is also on this side of the old bridge so at the Riverside you are shielded from the noise to a degree. It wasn't exactly a hive of activity and I don't think it should bother you too much, but please don't take my word for it. Perhaps someone who has just return can help more?
Thanks for reply,i think you are right, being other side of bridge will shield it,im not going till 18 jan,so the heavy stuff may be done, cheers.
Don,t want to put you off too much but when we left 6 jan they had started demolishing the concrete bridge with jack hammers and it was exteremely noisy. When the compressors broke down they started using hammers and chisels. I would definitely consider another hotel as from the speed they were working I dont think the demo will be complete by the end of the month. You will have to keep asking returning people for an update. Sorry if this is bad news but I would not like you to have your holiday spoiled by this.
Thanks for reply,i dont think i have an option now,i will just have to hope for the best.do workmen work sat and sun in goa,was the road nearly finished for new bridge
Let me know how you get on I will be at the Riverside Regency in 5 weeks, I'm not even consdiering changing to anywhere else as we've had a great time each time we have stayed there! hey what's a bit of noise , give us something to laugh about when we get back (I hope).

Your right donna, they only work daylight hours,im an early riser,as i dont want to miss anything, and it gets dark fairly early, and i will be off to nice beaches most of the time, the old bridge has got to be down by the time you come,i think i will give them a bribe to keep quite when i am in hotel,i dont think the owner is to happy, anyway i will let you know when i get back,
Don't be too sure about them only working daylight hours, when we were there in december they were working 24/7, but it was "interesting"
Any further updates on the bridge work? Is there going to be a road from the new bridge to Bagga?
I've just uploaded to the photo gallery a few shots of the work on the bridge from November (2006).
Just come back and the noise around the bridge is horrific, with drills working from 08.30 until 20.30 hrs with most of the bridge still to be demolished.
I for one will miss the old bridge - it was so ugly, but it was a landmark.
You can see the bridge on google maps, satalite view
Is the noise really that bad, we are staying at the Riverside regency . We are usually having breakfast by 0830 and out and about by 1930 anyway so hopefully won't be too affected by it, Oh please tell me the noise isn't that bad.
Whenever I said 'it'll be a shame to see the bridge go' at Christmas the Goans would say back 'R U MAD'!!
We stayed at the Riverside guest house, we came back 10 days ago and I am sorry to say that the noise was awful, pneumatic drills going almost non stop from about 8.30am til 8pm six days a week. This went on for the whole of our holiday but of course we were out for most of the day.
The good news is that we were told by the management at Riverside that they would be finished with the drills on about Jan 27th ( the day after we came home ). They said that the noise wouldnt be half as bad after that.
We walked over the temporary bridge today and the old box bridge is in the middle of being demolished. The noise was awful and I think there is still lots of work to be done. Taken some photos of the work being done, will post when we come home.

Thanks for the info minnie9, we arrive Saturday 17th Feb so hopefully they will be finished with the drills. Did you stay at the regency or the other side at the guesthouse?
I have just read the above post from Gemma. It looks as though they have gone past the deadline for the reduction of the noise. I hope it soon stops because people were asking to be moved to other hotels it was so bad but there wasnt much available accomodation anywhere else.We had to grin and bear it. We stayed at the Guesthouse.
