Me and my wife have just got married and we are also emigrating to Australia, so on the way we wanted to stop off somewhere for our honeymoon, we talked to travel nation and asked for quotes to go to Kuala lumpur for a week and then onto Perth. They gave us a price we were happy with and a hotel that looked fine to us, this was all paid for on the 21/6/13 then today my wife was told by a friend at work about the city being engulfed in smoke due to slash and burn activities in Sumatra. We have checked the net and found out that the Malaysian government has closed schools and business and it has given warning to its people about the smoke.
They have advised all businesses to close if possible, it turns out that this happens every year in Kuala lumpur.
I spoke to Travel nation this morning and asked for a refund because we don't want to spend our honeymoon stuck inside the hotel and my wife suffers from asthma, i have been told that we cannot have a refund and there is nothing we can do unless the FCO puts out a warning about traveling to Kuala Lumpur just before we travel.
I believe the agent should have warned us about the smoke problems but she didn't even though they are supposed to be experts in around the world travel.
So now we are looking at spending our honeymoon in a place which will affect my wife's health and ruin our honeymoon, i have spoken to ATOL which said the same about the FCO having to put a warning on travel to Kuala Lumpur but surely the travel agent should have warned us of this as it happens every year.
We cannot afford to loose the £2000 we have spent on the flights and i do not know what we are to do, do we go and risk my wife suffering because of the smoke?
If anyone can help us with some information it would be gratefully appreciated.
By the way, i booked this holiday using my wife's credit card if that helps.
