Hi alsbaby
We stayed at the Calypso in early May 2006 and we arrived around 10pm at night - there was a bottle of wine chilling in our room!
Hope this helps.
Gill
What block did you stay in Was it the main block or the thomson one?
As i said we arrive at noon any idea's about what time we can check in and get sorted with room
Kerrie
It was the Thomson block we stayed in and I've got to admit, it was perfectly fine - no problems with it at all. The carpets in the corridor were a bit grubby but apart from that it was fine. Rooms were clean also which is high on my priority list for a hotel room! In fact, that's the only hotel we've stayed in in Spain that there's been a double bed and not two single beds pushed together!
I think the check in time will probably be from 2pm onwards.
When is it you're going to Salou? I'm sure you'll have no problems
Gill
We are going on the 7 -21 june. Can you remember if there is a room to put the cases until we can get in the hotel room I have seen a video on another site and it has bunkbeds for the kids but the top one has no guard rail . I dont know if you took kids so dont know if you will be able to tell me about this but it doesnt seem very safe for kids.
Thanks for your replies
Kerrie
I think there was a room for keeping cases in but not 100% sure. I'm not sure about the bunk beds, however, my brother and sister-in-law were on holiday with us at the same time and I think it was only single/pull out beds they had in their room for the kids. The kids were 4, 8 and 10 at the time they went on holiday.
Any other questions just give me a shout.
Gillian
Thanks for all your help Gill you have been great. If i think of anything else ( and i probably will ) I will know were to look
I have just been onto the med hotel site to see if there was a different video than the thomson one, OH MY GOODNESS the showers are next to the bed and they are not even frosted Now while this wont be a problem for my hubby when i take my shower I will hazard a guess that its something my 11yr old just does NOT want to see Scar him for life
I dont know if this is the main block i was looking at but we will be staying in the thomson block could anyone tell me the layout of these rooms (2 A & 2 K ages 11-9) I think we will be in a family room but i am not sure.
Thanks
Kerrie
I have requested a pool view and lower floor and i should be in the thomson block as booked through them ( which floor is best to get a good view of the pool )
Thanks
Kerrie
email is calypso@medplaya.com
Do you know how long i should leave it before emailing the request I was thinking about 2 weeks before or is this abit late??
kerrie
That should be fine cause they wont get your detailes from your holiday com until about then

Hope someone can help me. I am trying to book a holiday for my husband, myself and our 11 year old son. We have had my Mum staying with us for 6 months now and she has been seriously ill and I have been caring for her, up until recently, 24 hours a day. My Mum is finally on the road to recovery and hopefully will be back in her own home within the next couple of months. I want to get a holiday where everything feels right and nothing likely to go wrong. The Calypso looks good and the reviews look good, but can anyone tell me if it is close to shops and ameneties and what the hotel itself is really like? I vowed I would never have another Thomson holiday again after a bad experience 3 years ago, but that was more about the way that they dealt with the complaint than the actual holiday.
Thanks in advance.
Eldatom
I dont know about shops and things but we are going to the calypso and i decided from the reviews on here to book it. I have learned that its about 10 min walk to beach so i asumme the shops are along the way. I do know there is a paper shop ( bits and pieces) a few mins stroll away from the calyspo as last time we visited salou we stayed at the avenida and it was in the middle of the two hotels. When are you planning on going We go in june.
Its been really quiet on here lately but i am sure if you keep checking you will get the answers to your questions
Kerrie
Hi Kerrie
The hotel isn't too far from shops.
Turn left out of hotel and take second left and you'll find a small Supermarket. Prices not bad and a fairly decent range of food plus British food. Fresh food etc. (sounds like the same place as alsbaby described)
From memory water was fairly cheap.
We had originally booked two rooms as Thomson said that they couldn't provide connecting rooms.Emailed the hotel who advised me to email back about 2 weeks prior to departing (They don't get details of bookings until then). Did email and we got a lovely family room. (Probably saved the hotel some money as well, but we were happy).
Top tip - book the fridge to keep your cold drinks cold.
To walk to the main street of shops/ bars etc you turn left out of the hotel and first left. It is about 5 mins to the main road and then about 5/10 mins down the road to the main part of town.
To be honest, the biggest problem with the Calypso would be the guests, the other Brits that are staying. To be honest all 3* Spanish hotels are likely to "suffer" from the same problems.
We've stayed in Salou 5 times now - and the wife prefers the Avienda suites. Personally I prefered the Caribe Resort (if you have the money and want to get away from the British)
Any other way we can help, let me know.
I was just wondering do i hire the fridge when i get there or do i do it now Or maybe i can email the hotel about 2 weeks before and ask them for one?? What do you think is best to do :que. I was wondering about a fridge cos it cuts the cost down of pop for the kids and beers for me and hubby
Thanks
Kerrie
After seeing some more reviews on another site about the hotel calypso i am now having panic attacks about the thomson block. I know i have said all this before but these were more recent, I dont know wether to email the hotel nearer the time and request to be placed in the main building ( dont even know if i can do this or not ) And if i do get in the main building is this were the spanish kids stay ( heard they can be alittle noisy to say the least) I have read all the reports on here although they are mixed but the others i read tonight are awful. Could someone please advise? I really want this to be a brilliant holiday for my family as we have been really looking forward to it.
The food is good and the staff really friendly. The med staff are fantastic with the kids even the shy ones. We are off to Mexico this year but may go back to the Calypso next year.
I bought 14 day passes for the Port Adventura and went every 2nd day which meant we did every other evening in the hotel. I am sure you will have a great time.
Thanks for your reply, you have made me feel alot better with what you said in your post. I am getting edgy because i just want us all to have a great time, And althought i know it wont be perfect but the other reviews were dire
I will not email the hotel about changing blocks and i will just wait and see.
I do want to email them about a pool view ( do you recommend the this??) Also do you know if i can email them about hiring a fridge before we go and pay for it when we get there or do i have to get intouch with thomson??
Thanks again
Kerrie
