if the incidents had not taken place would they would be very quick to say so

It depends on the policies within the hotel group, some Directors are not allowed to respond to reports of whatever nature.
Some have to sit and read reports that they know are down right lies, but they are not allowed to respond and engage in debate.
Their silence can be interpreted as guilt by some, but the official statements will come from the head office within that group and not a particular manager of the hotel in question.......he has to answer to the members of the board and if he puts out a statement that they might not agree with, then his job is down the pan.

By the way, I'm not playing down anything, I just find it strange that there was not one word about robos amongst the Spanish guests who have stayed in this hotel, some of the reviews dated back from this month to last year.
Let me just ask those who are playing down the whole thing, are YOU going to be staying there?

Immaterial.

My cousin has stayed at this hotel for at least the last 5 years running now, and has never heard of any problem with theft here. My only experience of this Hotel is when we had a meal there with my cousin in January this year. I personally did'nt think the food was partcularily good, but i only had that one meal there so cant really judge on that alone. Its certainly a nice enough environment and the staff seemed pleasant enough.

The last 5 reviews on Trip Advisor all report they had money taken from their safe. One guest lost £850.The last review is dated 21st April.I cant believe nothing is being done by the management and police. My cousin has used this hotel many times since it opened but asked me to check the reviews last November as she had heard rumours about the thefts. The reviews stating thefts were taking place put her off going back and she went to another hotel.

Please folks, unless anyone has any direct personal experience of any security problems at this hotel, then it might be best if we do not make an issue on this site over what is being written on another review site.

I am in no position to say that there is or isn't a problem at the hotel and we do not what know measures (if any) are taken on that site to try and verify the authenticity of reviews. However, a quick glance through some of their reviews immediately suggests to me that several have been written by one person.

If you have concerns about the content, authenticity, or frequency of allegations of theft at that hotel, then it may be best to discuss the matter on the site which is publishing those reviews in order that they may make further checks.

Many thanks

I can quite understand the reasons for removing the last few threads. However i think on the basis on remaining fair and impartial the judgement that several reviews appear to be written by one person should also go.

Just my two pennies worth. :tup

Hi luv2tan ... just in case anyone else is in any doubt, the reason your first post unfortunately had to go last night, is that it was copied directly from another review site and was in breach of their copyright policy.

The reason that your second post had to go is that you started it by saying "latest news from the hotel is ... ", giving the slightly misleading impression that your information was coming directly from the hotel, rather than just from what someone else had posted on another review site.

Following my request above, which was initially made last week and repeated last night, posts by other members have had to go for similar reasons.

As I have already said, I am in no position to say that there is or isn't a security problem at the hotel. But unless you have direct personal experience or evidence of any such problem, then we cannot have a discussion here, either about or based on the specific content of reviews on another site. I would have significant concerns about the authenticity, content and libelous nature of some of those reviews, if they had been posted on our review site. Our Admins would take the necessary steps to try and ensure their authenticity. We do not know what measures are taken on that other site to try and ensure authenticity and I personally have already reported concerns and suspicions to them about some of the reviews for that hotel and others.

In the interests of our members, not to mention our own legal interests, it is best that comments and feedback about the hotel are based only on personal experience, rather than hearsay or material from other forums or reviews sites which may or may not be accurate or genuine.

lets try again. The hotel has said DIRECTLY that all safes are now turned off!

I am due to go to this Hotel in June and I am having very serious reservations about it due to all the reviews its been getting presently. I was there last year and there was no problems of theft. Another review has been posted and once again lot of money stolen but this time from a locked suitcase. Surely holiday companies should be raising such concerns with the hotel direct. This hs been going on for months now and its still happening and no sign of it being resolved.

I stayed at the Melia in Benidorm in July 2005.

We used a safe but I was the only one who had cash inside it - there was about £70 sterling there, along with passports and credit cards. I got most of my money from an ATM and the sterling was really for emergencies or the trip home.

The cash went missing...I clearly remember going into the safe and it not being there - much to my bemusement. I had been a bit drunk a couple of nights running so put it down to me being careless but these reviews now make me wonder - it seems to be cash the thieves take and I know the safe was locked at all times - but of course we were not in the room at all times.

Just wanted to say that we had a fabulous holiday at this hotel in July of this year. Our safe was locked at all times and we had NO money go missing. Whilst there we heard of NO breakings. Just wondering If this has all got out of proportion. As we all know, there are always the odd member of staff that are untrustworthy and let's hope that if that is the case, the hotel is investigating this.

I may have just been lucky but we had a fantastic time, the hotel is lovely, I wouldn't want anyone not booking this hotel because of some of the reviews. That said, I would not carry loads of valuables on holiday with me, such as jewellery etc. I also withdraw cash as I go along so that I don't have too much money in the safe anyway.

Have a great holiday.

I picked up some guests from there yesterday and as they were checking out the manager was practically throwing bargain offers to them for January. This is encouraging as I was worried that the Benidorm hotels were rather slow in responding to the fact that numbers will be well down next year.
